Well, another square dance convention has come and gone. I've been enjoying the afterglow. Great Dancing...Wonderful Hotel...Nice City...

I sneaked a look at the under 35 specialty tip - 2 squares! Not enough in my opinion given that some 40+ dancers got their 10 year medallions! I was 28 or so when I went to my first convention...in order to get a ( Read more... )

Hmmmm...is it just me or is the whole post about getting older?

I am not sure that those options are on different ends of a scale... but what do I know? I am 8 years older than you and don't even remember how old I was when I took basic!

Besides, I like your idea of salting parade/Pride demonstration squares with a few Titan Men. I am sure that Harlan could call something that would show off how easy it is to look good while you're dancing.

I was 29 when I started gay square dancing and 31 at my first convention. I was extremely happy to see all the greenhorns at the convention this year, but if our own club is any indication, 35 and under is certainly a rarity nowadays. None of our own greenhorns were under 35, I don't think.

I really really really have to get to work on the University gay group here that's 18 to 25.

Now that's a great idea! I wonder if Foggy City or Western Star have thought about hitting SF State, UCSF, USF or any of the other alternative colleges in the City?

One of the traditional college orientation events in Claremont was a 5 college square dance. If any local club had shown up and passed out flyers explaining what square dancing was really like, I might have been tempted.

I sneaked into square dancing just under the 35 year mark, and that was oh! so many years ago now. To find out how many years ago-- Tag you're it.
