I love going to my kendo practice. All the kenshis are great people and helpful in my journey to kendo perfection. My sensei is an awesome teacher too. He is respected by all U.S. kendo federation and he's ranked in the Japanese tournament as one of the best. During the day he works as sushi chef at Musashino's on Far west and teaches kendo at night.
I saw a video today about Kendo Exam to be 8th Dan. This test is unbelievably fucking hard. It consist of 3parts. First and second elimination of 2 minute Duel. Then the qualifiers of both exams go take the final written test. Out of 800 people who take the exam, only 8% pass each year. To be qualified to a contestant you have to be: 46 years or older, and acquired 7th dan for at least 8 years. This one 78 year old man has been attempting to pass the exam for over 24 YEARS!!! I give that guy all the props for his determination. He failed again in the video but he said he'll continue trying until his last breath.
After watching the video I suddenly had this overwhelming desire to be one of the 8th dan people. I only began kendo last semester and I still have a long road ahead of me to reach 1st dan But I'm glad I found something that I can pursue for the rest of of my life.
