I really enjoyed reading this. The way you described Kal’s love/hate of particular colours, red especially, was very nice. That Kal is still wary of Lionel even when he is fully embracing his powers is interesting too.But now I have all these questions! Does Kal view Clark as a totally different being or an extension of himself? Something he was and hates (but loves in a twisted way because those experiences were Clark’s and therefore his) or someone who could have been an equal if only he was given the chance to show how much he was worth?
I thought at first that Clark and Kal were two different beings ‘sharing’ a body and then I read over it again:
‘When Kal sleeps, he dreams Clark’s dreams | Kal can’t stand them, these dreams, so he refuses sleep until he can no longer function | Clark tries to appeal to a conscience and sense of guilt that just aren’t there in Kal.
Clark is the conscience buried deep right? A part of his old self still wiggling and worming and clinging on? Or am I just talking crap?
And Kal knows it’s because Clark doesn’t always feel pain physically that the emotional wounds are that much more severe and debilitating. Perfectly put and so true.
Wow! I apologize for not responding to your comment sooner, hon. This just got away from me! So sorry!
And I gotta say reading this comment is such a thrill cos your reaction is exactly what I was going for. Clark *is* the conscience. My theory, or the way *I* see it, "Kal" would like it to be a case of him vs. Clark for dominance of that body. It's not, though. They're one person, but just different aspects of the same personality. Later, the show got into the Kal vs. Clark thing again with the whole black Kryptonite plot device, but. . . I think in this ficlet it's just Clark wanting to be strong and untouchable. He's high as a kite, in other words. :)
And, no, no, you're not talking crap at all! Spot-on! Brain twins. Mind meld going on here. :) So thank you so much for reading and leaving a comment, and I apologize again for leaving you hanging on it for well over a month! Yikes!
