sweetness

before she and trav moved here, i'd met alyssa only a couple of times. of course she seemed nice enough, and very polite(!), but she was so shy and quiet that i hadn't been able to get much of an idea about what she's really like. after four days here, though, my impression of her is growing...broadening...deepening. (or something like that. i've got to admit that i have less confidence in my ability to "size people up" than i used to have. my experiences with mark and j did a lot to destroy my trust in my own intuition.)

mostly, however, it's my impression of her and travis as a couple that has really grown. they're so obviously in love with each other! they wrestle around on the floor and the furniture a lot, laughing and giggling the whole time. they do chores together, cooking, laundry, cleaning up after themselves. travis lost sight of her at a party they went to on saturday night, and showed up here figuring she'd got tired and walked home, only to discover that she wasn't here. back he went, a worried look on his face that something had happened to her. (the party was crowded, rowdy and aggressive, with lots of fights apparently. exactly the kind of atmosphere you'd expect at a school filled with student-athletes and student-ropers! add alcohol, sit back, and watch the fireworks.) fifteen minutes later they both showed up at the door, smiling and laughing and fooling around.

it's really lovely, and i feel so much better about travis having followed alyssa out here. not that bad things can't still happen, i know, but seeing a healthy relationship in action makes me hopeful! i'm really happy for them. (and a bit jealous, truthfully, as i've yet to experience a relationship like theirs, full of smiles and laughter and the desire to really and truly take care of each other.) sweetness.
