New York COmic Con Anime/Manga Guide Part 3

Feb 22, 2007 08:43

It is time to talk about the American Anime Awards.  This is the first year for them and there is already alot of controversy.  I am not surprised at this because of how they chose the nominees.  The fans did vote, but the first set of nominees were done by the industry.  The rule was for anything that was available in the US in 2006 Anime or Manga wise.  This wasn't things that were on their first releases.  This let things in like FLCL into the finalists because of it being available this year.  Also, Johnny Yong Bosch is among the finalists for best actor in a comedy for Akira.  Akira is not a comedy in anyone's stretch of the imagination.  I am disappointed about this and hopeful he doesn't win in that category.

Here are the Full Nominees, Bold is who I think will win.  Who I want to win in the voice acting categories will be revealed further down.

Who should win Best Actor: Crispin Freeman.  This has been his best year yet as Togusa in Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and his return in Hellsing.  Johnny Yong Bosch is the most popular Voice Actor along with Vic Mignonga, so I chose Johnny Yong Bosch for his work in Bleach.

Who should win Best Actress: Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn (won't people put her last name on the ballot).  She took over one of the toughest roles out there and made it her own (Major Motoko Kusanagi).  This is her year and she deserves this award.  I am also a unofficial Major Kusanagi fanboy.

Who should win Best Actor in a comedy matches who will win:  Greg Ayres is one of the most diverse voice actors out there in rolls.  I heard him in Negima and though that was Greg Ayres no way.  He embraced and made the boy wizard his own.

Who should win Best Actress in a comedy: Laura Bailey is the only one who could making rapping funny.  I think she should be the post show entertainment as a rapping Sana.

Who should win for Best cast: Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd Gig.  This is the best dub of the year in my opinion. It takes a show that seems like Headline news by experiencing it in subtitles and makes it into an action drama that it suppose to be. The characters performances are great.  Richard Epcar, who will be representing the cast at the show, shines as Batou.

There you have it for the American Anime Awards preview.  Tonight, I will let you know where I will be over the next few days at NY Comic Con.
