For the first time since the weekend before, I was home for the whole weekend and able to relax some. This is the start of a slow period for me with no cons until Otakon, but plenty to keep me occupied. I got the lawn done for the first time in a couple of weeks and also watched more of Gundam 00 along with Weight Watchers and the usual chores.
The big disappointment for me was seeing the Americans lose to Ghana. The beauty of the round of 16 is that all the teams are evenly matched. I really thought we looked a little emotionally drained because we hadn't had an easy game all tournament. If there is something the US really needs to learn to do better is not give up a goal early in the game. We are something like 0-16-5 when we give up the early goal in the World Cup. I am not sure Bradley is the one who will give us that mental toughness to start strong. I also think he may go on his own for family reasons or for another squad instead of the federation forcing him out. The USMNT is a hard job and must wear on him and his family. Much like a NFL Head Coach or College Head Coach's job is stressful and wears on them.
I haven't talked about Mobile Suit Gundam 00 at all, since I have been watching it in the last couple of months. Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is the seventh series based on the famous mecha. It is a reimaging of the original series done by Seiji Mizsuhima (Director of Full Metal Alchemist). It is a really good series and probably the first Mecha Series I have bought more than one volume of, since Rahxephon. It has beautiful character and Mecha designs and an engaging story that is relevant for the post 9/11 society we live in. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of the first season soon and getting Second Season by the end of the year.
I am also hearing some interesting things about Katsucon and a fannish project I may be involved in 2011 on, but I will save that for another time and place.
