Today has been busy.  Doing chores most of the time (mainly laundry) and packing.  I still have to finish packing, actually...  We're leaving tomorrow morning, early (early as in 4am early) for Louisiana.  I should be back Sunday or Monday but I won't be online until Monday or Tuesday morning 'cause we'll be getting home late.

Ooh, I posted my HP oneshot!   And I'm actually kinda happy with this one.  I made someone cry!  I've done my job.  ^-^  And someone wants me to write another chapter, I may do it if I get an inspiration but I'm not sure.

Title:  No Fairy Tale Ending
Fandom:  Harry Potter
Genre:  Romance/Tragedy/Angst

Summary:  Okay, kinda late for a HP fic, but oh well. This is my little HP oneshot. Romance, HarryGinny with mentions of RemusTonks and RonHermione. Takes place after Deathly Hallows.
Disclaimer: Don't own Harry Potter, Jell-O, Staind or their song "It's Been a While" which is quoted near the end.

(No) Fairy Tale Ending

It is the middle of summer. A slight breeze makes the heat a little more bearable. Not a cloud is in the sky.

A woman walks briskly down the sidewalk. Shoulder-length auburn hair is blown about by the wind, slightly obscuring the freckled fair skin of her face. She is wearing a sleeveless black dress, as she is in mourning. Her name is Ginny Weasley.

She turns out of Hogsmeade and onto the road to Hogwarts; the gates have been left open so that people could visit the graves of those who passed during the battle with Lord Voldemort.

Unfortunately, she has many to visit.

She walks by Percy’s grave with little more than a glance, stops to brush off her brother Charlie’s and drop a flower. A few more family friends and she reaches the one she has felt obligated to visit every day for the past month.

She sits on the step of the mausoleum, eyes tearing up as she runs her fingers over the engraved epitaph.

Harry Potter

July 31, 1980 - July 19, 1997

Friend, Student, Hero

“Oh, Harry,” she whispers. “I wish you could be here. We all do.” She pauses before continuing. “Lupin and Tonks are getting married today. And I think Ron is going to propose to Hermione at the reception. It’s going to be amazing.”

She looks down at her left hand and twirls the diamond ring on her finger.

Then she loses herself in memories.

Ginny sits on the couch in the sitting room at the Black house. She knows she should be sleeping; the final battle with Lord Voldemort will be tomorrow, but she just can’t seem to fall into the welcoming arms of peaceful slumber.

She hears footsteps behind her, turns around. Harry walks in, shaking his unkempt hair out of his eyes. “Can’t sleep?” he asks. She shakes her head and he says, “Me neither.” He sits on the chair opposite her.

She sits, observing him. He seems so calm, she notices. “Aren’t you nervous?” she asks.

He sighs. “I’ve known this would happen for a long time. I figured that there’s no use worrying, because it’s going to happen sooner or later, and there’s no way to avoid it. Worrying will only make it worse.”

“Very wise.”

“I’ve taken care of everything I wanted to do, except for one. I know very well that tonight may be my last-”

“Harry, don’t say that!” she cuts in. “You can’t die, you just can’t.”

“Ginny, stop. Please.” She bites her bottom lip and motions for him to continue. “If I do- you know, then I’ll do it with no regrets.”

There is a short silence between them that neither seems to want to break, but it’s so uncomfortable for them both. Neither meets the other’s eyes. Finally Ginny says, “So, all but one. What else do you have to do?”

He smiles slightly, pulls something out of his pocket and stands. “Ginny… there’s something I want to tell you. Please, let me finish before you say anything, or I’ll lose my nerve.” She nods, a confused look on her face, and he continues.

“We’ve been through a lot, these past few years. I know, we’re young, but I feel ready for this.” He goes down on one knee and opens a small box to reveal a golden ring with a single diamond - simple, but elegant and beautiful.

“If I live, Ginny, will you marry me?” There is a pleading look in his eyes, afraid of rejection, but also eagerness and hope for the future.

And Ginny falls even more deeply in love with Harry- and she falls hard.

She can only choke out one word. “Yes.”

He grins, relieved, and slips the ring onto her finger. Then he stands and helps her up.

She feels his warm lips against hers. Her body is pressed against his, a perfect fit. Her legs turn to Jell-O as he gently picks her up and carries her up the stairs.

The tears are flowing freely and heavily now.

“Damn you, Lucius Malfoy,” she whispers fiercely. “He didn’t deserve to die. He didn’t deserve to be murdered!” She clamps her eyes shut. “I hope you get the kiss, Malfoy. You took him from us-from me! Just when we thought… when we thought it was over, and we could all live happily ever after.”

She sighs and opens her eyes again. “There is no such thing as happily ever after, a fairy tale ending.”

She stands and turns abruptly, starts walking away before stopping again. She looks over her shoulder and whispers, “It’s been a while since I’ve seen the way the candles light your face. It’s been a while, but I still remember just the way you taste.” Another sigh. “I miss you, Harry Potter. I love you.”

She can almost hear his voice saying the same to her as she walks away.

“I love you, Ginny.”
