(Fic) The Spy who Love Me - 12/12

Chapter 12

We didn’t want to accuse the wrong person so to check whether our suspicions about Yuri as the leak in the police force was accurate, our plan was for Micky to pass on some false information about Jaejoong’s whereabouts to her and see whether the information was then passed on to the gang or to her supervisor. We then waited to see whether the other side took any action. We waited at the said location and true enough we saw some suspicious characters, which we later checked out to be belonging to the Green Dragon gang.

On the other hand, I had also checked with Inspector Kim about it some time later to see whether the information was passed on to him and it was not. Thus we are quite sure that Yuri is the spy and she has been passing information about Jaejoong on to someone else. Another thing about the plan was that once the other side found out that Yuri’s information are not accurate, they will start to doubt her and we hope that it could work to our advantage later on.

Whereas Hyukjae’s plan was for us to lure the bad guys who are after Jaejoong’s life to someplace where we can capture them all in one scoop. The first thing was for us to find the right place. All of us sat down together and discuss the possible places before finally deciding on the place, a deserted warehouse on the way to the airport. Micky was a great help since he’s a native whereas the rest of us have been out of Korea for a while and are less familiar with the local places.

The warehouse was ideal for our purposes firstly because it was out of the way so that no innocent bystanders would be hurt during the crossfire. Secondly, it fitted in well with the false information we were going to pass on to Yuri and lastly because the place was built in such a way that it was ideal for us to set traps for them.

After that we went through the plan thoroughly together to make sure that we had not missed out on anything. The most important thing about this operation was that Jaejoong’s safety was the top priority and the guys are to make sure that he would not be hurt in the process.

After going through the plan with each of them and making sure that each one knows his own role, the plan was then put in motion.

Firstly, Micky was to tell Yuri that Jaejoong would be flying back to the United States to testify in the trial and thus he was going to send him off at the airport. We were betting that the gang would take action since they knew that this would be the last chance for them to take out Jaejoong before the trial.

On the supposed day that Jaejoong was to fly back, we all went to Yunho and Jaejoong’s place to go with them to the airport to send them off but our real purpose was actually to protect Jaejoong. I managed to get a car that could fit all of us, plus luggage (empty ones). Even though we were only acting, we needed to be convincing, we couldn’t be sure that they were keeping a lookout for us. Everyone had on their bulletproof vest under their clothes and our weapons and ammunition concealed on various parts of our body.

We got into the car with me and Micky in the front while the rest of the guys sit in the back. Jaejoong was seated in between Yunho and Changmin while Hyukjae and Sungmin took the seats behind them, effectively covering Jaejoong from all sides if they decide to shoot him. We set off on the road to the airport, and we noticed a number of suspicious cars following us all too soon, once the car was away from the apartment.

“Sungmin, could you see the people in the car behind us?” I asked since he was the closest to thus having a better view as I turned a corner, having spotting the cars behind us early on since we left the apartment, but was now trying to confirm my suspicions.

“Well, can’t really see their faces but they don’t look like they would be receiving any good citizen’s award anytime soon.” Sungmin turning in his seat to look at them before replying.

“Ok. Guys, hold tight, I’m going into the alley and if they want to make a move on us, it would most likely be here.” I warned them as I did so. Once the car was in the alley, the cars that were following us made their move. They started shooting at our car; I had to drive really carefully so that the car wouldn’t be hit. It would be disastrous if they hit either our fuel tank or the tyres. I had to swerve the car several times to avoid getting hit by them. All the guys were holding tightly on to their seats.

“Junsu, where did you learn to drive like this?” Micky asked, obviously amazed by my driving skills.

“Let’s talk about this some other time.” I said, as I needed my full concentration on the road ahead.

“So, could we have some fun too?” Changmin asked, obviously excited at the prospect of a shoot down. He must have been bored to death by this mission.

“Better don’t waste too much of your ammunition before we reached the place, just let Xiah do his stuff.” Yunho said. My mind was fully on driving us out of that alley safely and to the warehouse without arousing the suspicions of the cars behind us.

“Max, maybe you should fire a few shots at them so that they wouldn’t be suspicious of us, but don’t kill them yet. We want to catch them all alive preferably.” I ordered, not wanting them to think it was a trap, trying to make it looks as natural as possible. Changmin quickly did as instructed; he took out his gun gleefully, leaned his body half way out of the car and took aim at the cars behind us. He managed to hit a couple of the cars, not enough to stop the car but enough to do some damage, sending them skidding a couple of times. Hyukjae was helping to keep the rest of Changmin’s body in the car as I swerved the car from time to time to avoid getting hit. So to them, it looked like we were forced onto the road to escape from them but actually they were the ones who had fallen into our trap instead.

“Guys, the road to the warehouse is coming up, be prepared to get out.” I told them as soon as the warehouse came into sight. We knew that we would only have a few minutes ahead of them to get everyone into the warehouse safety. All of us quickly checked our weapons. I could see from the mirror that Yunho was whispering words of assurance to Jaejoong in the back.

“Don’t worry, we won’t let you get hurt. Just remember to stay behind and close to me.”

“Yunho, I trust you guys.” Jaejoong said, obviously scared but was still willing to go through with it.

“Junsu, be careful.” Micky said to me just before I stopped the car.

“Ok. Let’s do it.” I said as the car stopped and I glanced over to make sure that everyone is ready before we got out to face the music. We slowly moved out of the car, making sure that Jaejoong was protected on all sides by any one of us. The cars that followed us were fast approaching and many guys dressed in black came out from the cars (something like a scene from those gangster movies). We slowly backed into the warehouse. We didn’t want to engage them out in the open space, drawing them into the warehouse instead where we had already booby-trap the place the day before. We quickly moved in and got into our position behind the crates where we had a good view of the door, using this to our advantage.

As the bad guys started coming in through the door, we started shooting, more as a sign to confuse them rather than to kill them. We wanted to separate them and to try to get them into the places where we had set up our traps. They scattered into smaller groups as they tried to run for cover in different directions. Soon screams could be heard from different directions, a sign that they were caught in our traps. As they noticed that some of their men were falling, the rest quickly hid behind whatever they could find too, leaving their fallen comrades behind. This was part of our psychological warfare, to create confusion and uncertainty among the enemies. However we knew that this would only be a short-term solution, as the more experienced ones would not be that easily affected by these tricks of ours.

Once they found their own hiding place and got their bearings, they started shooting again to try to determine our positions. We quickly spread out once they resumed shooting, getting into our own position. We had chosen places where we knew they couldn’t get to us that easily so most of their shots went wide off target. However they were not stupid too, after a while; they knew that they were just wasting their bullets and they stopped to take stock of the situation.

There was a complete hush as both sides waited for the other to make the first move. The tension in the air was so thick that you would need a knife to cut through it. It was not just a fight but also a battle of the mind, to see who would crack under the pressure first. Suddenly, a scream pierced the silence in the warehouse, shattering the calm. We knew that this could be a trick so we only peered out from behind our hiding place to see what was happening. I was not surprised to see a tied up Yuri being pushed out into the open. This was expected when you are dealing with scum like them.

“We have a hostage on our hand.” One of them pushed Yuri out with his gun held to her head.

“I don’t think you would want to see any innocent people hurt, would you? Just give us Jaejoong and we won’t hurt the lady here.” One of them shouted to us. We looked at each other. They obviously did not know that we already knew about Yuri and she was no innocent bystander in this.

“What should we do now?” Micky mouthed to me. I have my orders and I was not going to risk Jaejoong for Yuri.

“She works for them, do we want to take the chance? This could be another plot by them.” Changmin said.

“Micky, It’s up to you. The bottom line is we won’t exchange Jaejoong. It’s too dangerous. You have to decide what you want to do with Yuri. Save her or let her be?” I said, stating our stand. The rest nodded, agreeing with him. I knew even if I agreed to the exchange, Yunho wouldn’t agree. He was adamant before this that Jaejoong would not be risked in this operation and I had promised him.

Hearing that, Micky knew that we would not be risking Jaejoong for Yuri and it will all be up to him to save Yuri if he wants to. “Ok. Cover me, I will talk to them.” Micky said to me, putting his gun into his pants before standing up from his position behind the crates.

“Micky, wait.” I called out to him but he didn’t look my way.

He stood up, raising his two hands up, showing that he was weaponless and that he comes in peace. “We know she’s working for you, we won’t fall for that and we already got you surrounded. Why don’t you give yourselves up?” Micky said to them, wanting them to know that their game was up.

“Micky, save me. Please save me.” Yuri screamed as soon as she saw him standing up, trying to run to Micky but was pulled back roughly by the man, falling hard back onto the ground.

“You don’t have to act anymore, I already know you’re in cahoots with them, you were the one who told them who Jaejoong is.” Micky said not concealing the disgust in his voice.

“I have no choice, my father is being held hostage by them, what would you do if you were in my shoes when your own father pleads with you to save him?” She asked. Micky didn’t answer her, what could he say?

“You know even if I save you now, you will have to go to jail for what you did.” Micky said to Yuri, reminding her of what she did before that. She looked dejected when she heard those words.

“That was very touching, but Jaejoong?” the guy who was holding Yuri asked again, holding her closer to him, obviously as a shield in case we shoot.

“Sorry, no deal.” Micky said. As soon as those words were spoken, a loud commotion erupted from behind them. Hyukjae must have done something, it helped to distract their attention for a while and Micky took that chance to knock the gun from the guy’s hand. The guy did not panic as he quickly moved into a fighting stance, striking out with his leg at Micky. Yuri reacted quickly too, running to a safe place to hide as soon as the gun was out of the guy’s hands.

We reacted too as soon as we realized what was happening. Shoots were soon being fired by both sides; we tried to cover for Micky, while the bad guys shot at us. I could see Micky trying to lure them into position where we had set our trap and tried to cover for him as much as possible.

Micky suddenly remembered he still had his gun in his pants and quickly pulled it out, however his gun was kicked out off his hand by a leg. I saw the guy who was holding Yuri before moved to tackle Micky but I was too busy myself helping cover him from the shoots from the others.

I took a glance at the dueling couple and was worried for Micky as I could tell from the man’s stance that he was an experienced and skilled fighter. I knew in a fight like this, any distraction could be fatal to either one so I kept quiet and focus on helping keeping Micky out of the crossfire between the two sides. As his full attention and concentration was on the man in front of him, he did not notice the guys that had moved to behind him, with their guns aimed at him but I did.

“Micky, look out.” I cried out. Micky managed to duck in time, just narrowly missing the shoots that were fired at him. However, it also costs him as the guy he was fighting with took this chance to grab the gun that was on the floor. He immediately shot at Micky, luckily for him that he got his vest on, so he was only propelled backwards by the impact of the shoot. He was still stunned by it and was slowly getting up when I saw them taking another shoot at him. I didn’t think twice before hurling myself against him. He fell back onto the ground with me on top of him.

“Shit.” I said as I moved to get off him. I knew that I had managed to get myself shot again when my arm protested in pain as I got up.

“Junsu are you alright?” He asked, trying to see whether I was hurt. As I stood up, I knew that he would know soon enough when he sees the blood that was trickling down my left arm.

“Junsu, are you shot?” I didn’t answer as I kicked another guy out of our way and quickly pulled him back with me to the safety of the crates as I saw that he was stunned by the wound on my arm and had made no move to get to safety after witnessing it.

“Micky, you should really think twice before acting.” I said to him when we got to safety. I quickly tore a bit of cloth off from my clothes and use it to bandage the wound on my arm, at least to stop the blood.

“You’re the one who got hurt.” He said to me, looking at my wound worriedly.

“Yeah, saving your butt.” I said, pleased at his concern but not at his timing. This was not the time to get all sentimental on me. We still have a job to finish and injuries were small matters to us with our high-risk job. I knew he was really worried from the expression on his face and I didn’t want him to lose his concentration at a time like this.

“You’re hurt, you better rest.” He pulled me down as I tried to stand up to get back to the fight. They needed as many hands as possible when we are faced with such a large number of opponents.

“I’m fine.” I reassured him.

“That’s not fine. How are you going to shoot now?” He said, pointing to my wound. I was not going to let something like that stop me from protecting my men.

“It’s ok, Micky hyung, he’s ambidextrous.” Changmin said, throwing that at Micky as he noticed the two of us arguing.

“What the hell does that mean?” Micky asked in frustration but anything else he wanted to say was interrupted by Hyukjae as he cut in with his warning.

“Guys, be prepared, I’m going to throw a tear bomb in.” I knew the commotion before was by him. We had discussed about this before and Yunho quickly make sure that Jaejoong was safely covered before doing the same to himself. The rest of us quickly put on our masks too. The tear bomb worked very well, with many of the bad guys in tears and running off in all directions as their vision was blurred by their tears.

“Now would be a good time to drop that net.” I said. Changmin and Yunho quickly and accurately shot at the string holding the net and it fell onto the bad guys catching most of them underneath it. The rest who were not caught in the net were quickly rounded up by us since they didn’t look at where they were running away.

“I’ve called for help.” Sungmin said as he came out from where he was.

“Micky, you had better stay behind to talk to the local police about this.” I told him, since we had no authority here.

“What about you guys?” He asked.

“We need to send Jaejoong back, his identity is still a secret and we don’t need the media reporting on that and I need to have my arm looked at so it would be better if the local police deal with this than us.” I replied.

We got into the car, with Hyukjae driving since my arm was injured. We stopped by at Shiwon’s place first to get our injuries tended to before going back to our place to pack. Why were we packing? What I didn’t tell Micky was that I had already received orders from my supervisor that I was to bring Jaejoong back immediately because they have managed to bring the date of the trial forward.

This was the best time to do so as the Green Dragon gang would need some time to regroup after being dealt such a blow by us. Another was that we didn’t want the media to catch wind of Jaejoong before the trial starts and with such a big “catch”, we would not be able to stop the media from reporting about Jaejoong.

I knew Micky would be busy dealing with the media and his supervisor because of the importance of this case. With the magnitude of the case, my guess would be that he would not be able to contact us at least for a few days which would give us enough time to get out of the country before he realizes it.

It’s not that I want to leave without saying goodbye but the circumstances doesn’t allow me to. We needed to leave immediately and secretly, not even telling Micky because we couldn’t take the risk of letting anyone knows that Jaejoong was on his way back to the States, who knows what the gang would do if they get hold of that information. We knew that there was another spy in the police force and Micky would need some time to catch him. The bottom line was we couldn’t trust that the information would not be leaked out.

The rest of us left Korea the next day except for Max who remained behind to coordinate the removal of all our equipment. The rest like school and our apartment matters had already been dealt with before hand when I received my orders. I knew that he would be upset by my sudden departure, I was too but I had a job to do.

Once we reached the States, all of us were caught up in the court case too, being key officers involved in the case, we were kept busy with the trial, leaving us with barely time to even sleep.

Max came back a few days later and told me that he saw Micky loitering around at my place before he left and that the guy misses me and reminded me to have a good talk with him sometime. I didn’t say anything to that because if that’s anything to say, I only wanted to say to Micky directly and that’s I missed him too. I didn’t call him because I was afraid I would think about him more if I heard his voice. The case needed my full concentration; I couldn’t be distracted at this moment.

Even though I was not in Korea, I knew what was happening there. I knew he was busy dealing with the court case for the arrest of the green Dragon gang members and also the arrest of his colleague (the other spy). I was sad that I wasn’t able to be there to give him my support. Now all I can do is to finish up the case on my hand.

Seoul, one month later.

Yoochun stepped out of the courtroom into the light. On reflex, he lifted his hand to shade his eyes from the glaring sun. He heaved a sigh of relief now that the case was finally over. He was sad to see his ex-colleagues going to jail but they should have known better. He could now concentrate on looking for his missing boyfriend. He missed him so much.

“Hey there, handsome.” A familiar voice rang out.

Yoochun turned to look at the young man who spoke. A young man dressed in tight blue jeans, a white tank top underneath a black shirt, which was unbuttoned. Yoochun thought he was daydreaming. He blinked his eyes to convince himself that he was not dreaming, that it was really the person that he had been thinking about for the last month.

“Junsu!” Yoochun cried as he ran to hug the man.

“It’s really you.” Yoochun said as he still can’t believe that the man was now in his arms.

“Yes. It’s me.” I said as I leaned myself into the embrace. Micky’s arms tried to tighten against me but were stopped by an obstacle.

“You’re hurt.” Micky said as he pulled back and looked at the cast around my left arm.

“That’s why I’m here now.” I said to him. He looked confused.

“What about your job?” He asked.

“My boss gave me a well deserved break since I worked my ass off for the last month to clear all my work. That’s why I didn’t call you.” I said the last sentence in a whisper.

“So you’re free now?” He asked hopefully.

“Yes, at least for the next 3 months.”

“So where will you be staying?”

“Of course with you, where else? Don’t tell me you’re shirking your responsibility of taking care of me? Remember I was hurt because of you.” I asked, arching my eyebrows, daring him to say the opposite.

“Of course I will take care of you. Forever if you want me to.” Micky vowed seriously.

“So what are we waiting for? Let’s go home.” I said, turning to leave.

Micky took my hand in his and raised our clasped hands to his lips, kissing them lightly and looking deep into my eyes before saying, “Yes. Let’s go home.” I nodded, giving him a smile. Happiness was actually just so simple: to be with the one you love.
