PrologueChapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Interlude Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
I was feeling better since the fever broke so I decided to go to school. However I was still weak and pale and Hyukjae was worried about my injuries so he drove me to school. Changmin came along with us in the car.
I have no idea what I will do or say when I meet Micky later. We reached school in just a short while. I was deep in my own thoughts and did not notice that Micky was waiting for us in the car park until I heard him call my name. I was startled and turned around to look at him. He looks haggard; there were dark circles under his eyes. Did he have trouble falling asleep too?
In a few steps, he was in front of me. Before I could said a greeting in reply, I was pulled into his arms and given a big hug.
“Junsu ah, are you feeling better today?” He asked in concern, pulling me even closer into his arms. He was squeezing me a bit too hard and my wound hurt. I groaned at the pain and Hyukjae heard it, quickly moving to pull Micky from me.
“Let go of him, you idiot.” Hyukjae said as he tried to pull me away from Micky, not succeeding since he was holding on to me so tightly. The tussle between the two of them was not helping me; I was getting dizzy from being pulled in two different directions. Changmin must have noticed the discomfort on my face.
“Hyung, let go, he can’t breathe.” Changmin said as he pulled me off from Micky. He pushed me into Hyukjae’s arms with him carrying most of my weight.
“Are you ok?” Hyukjae asked.
“Not really. Let’s go.” I said, holding tightly to my sides as I felt something wet trickling beneath my shirt.
“Wait, Junsu.” I heard Micky called out but I didn’t turn back because I can’t let him see me in this condition now. Luckily Changmin was there to stop him from following us or else he could have discovered my secret.
Hyukjae quickly helped me to the nurse’s office. Luck was on our side and the nurse was not around. I sat down and slowly took off my jacket before unbuttoning my shirt to look at my wound. Some blood could be seen seeping through from the bandages.
“Look what the idiot do this time?” Hyukjae said angrily as he pointed at my injuries while pacing the room.
“Hyukie, I need your help to re-bandage the wound.” I said to him, hoping that it will calm him down. After pacing a little while more, he went and looks for the necessary things, antiseptic and bandages. He took a deep breath and slowly peeled off the old bandages which were now soaked in blood.
“This is going to hurt a bit.” He warned. It was an understatement. He tried to be gentle but I still groaned when the last bandages was taken off.
“Maybe we should call Shiwon.” Hyukjae said when he saw my wound. Small amount of blood was trickling out from the wound.
“Of course, but at least you should help me stop the blood first. It would take him time to reach the place.”
Hyukjae tried his best to stop the bleeding before bandaging up the wound. It was not a difficult task for him since all of us had taken some sort of first aid course before. I lie on the bed to rest while he called Shiwon and told him what happened.
“He’s coming in a while. You just rest here.” Hyukjae said as he finished his phone conversation with Shiwon.
“You also need to let Changmin knows we’re not going back for classes.” I reminded him, he must have been wondering what happened to us when we did not return to the class. He could also help to keep Micky away from us at the moment.
“Yah, I know, I’ve texted him about it.”
“Thanks.”
“If you really want to thank me, you should let me teach that guy a lesson.”
“Hyukie.” I warned. He wanted to say something in retort but his reply was cut short when we saw the nurse coming into the room at the moment.
“What happened?” The nurse asked worriedly when she saw us in the room.
“He’s just feeling dizzy so I brought him here to lie down. He’s still recovering from a fever yesterday.” Hyukjae lied easily and the nurse accepted the explanation, seeing my pale face.
It took Shiwon a while to get to the school. He was out of breath when he reached us, must have been worried for me. I was sorry that I had to trouble him again.
“Sorry, had to make you rush here. I know you must be busy.” I apologized.
“Stop that. I thought I told you no strenuous exercise.” Shiwon said, ignoring my efforts to apologize.
“It’s not his fault. It’s that idiotic boyfriend of his.” Hyukjae said, I could tell he was still angry at Micky.
“I need to bring you back to my place to have a better look at your injuries.” Shiwon said to me, before looking over to Hyukjae. I nodded and he helped me out of the place.
“Hyukie?” I called when I noticed that he was not following us.
“Your car.” He said simply. I nearly forgot that he drove my car to school today.
“Ok. See you later.”
“I will bring him back later.” Shiwon said to Hyukjae.
I followed Shiwon to his car and he drove me back to his clinic. He took off the bandages and examined the injuries.
“Not too bad. Healing nicely as long as you don’t strain yourself again like today.”
“I understand.”
“If nothing happens, I should be able to take out the stitches by the end of the week. Keep yourself out of trouble these few days.”
“Yes. Sir.” I teased.
“Don’t just say that. It’s the doctor’s orders.”
“I know.”
“You know I need to report this to Inspector Holmes.” Shiwon said looking at me meaningfully.
“Just said that it was an unfortunate accident.” I told him.
“You owe me.”
“Thanks.”
“Come. Let’s bring you back.” Shiwon said as he helped me to my feet and drove me back home. I refused his offer of walking me back to my apartment. I was at my door when I heard someone called me.
“Junsu.” I turned and saw Micky waiting to knock on Changmin’s door. I was surprised because I had not expected to see him so soon. He reached me in a few seconds and his arms grabbed mine.
“We need to talk.” He said and I nodded.
“Come in.” I said opening the door to my place to let him in.
“How do you feel now?” Micky asked, looking worriedly at me. I knew I don’t look too good, pale from the fever and the loss of blood.
“I’m feeling better, the doctor said I shouldn’t try to overexert myself today.”
“I’m sorry for this morning, I was just too happy to see you.” Micky explained.
“I know.”
“Erm… about the thing that you saw the other day…” He stammered, trying to look for the right words. I waited patiently.
“She’s just a girl I dated before who wants to get back together but I told her I already had someone else and she just kissed me. I was too stunned by her actions but I pushed her away after that. You are the only one in my heart. I haven’t look at another person since I met you. You have to believe me.” He said everything in a rush, looking at me pleadingly.
I looked at him, thinking over what he had said, what Sungmin had found out and what I knew about him. He was waiting nervously for my verdict. I took in a deep breath before saying, hoping I won’t regret my decision.
“I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt this time.” I said. He was ecstatic, looking ready to jump up and hug me but he stopped himself in time, remembering what happened earlier. I smiled at his actions, moving forward into his arms myself. This time he held me gently, placing a kiss on my forehead. Being held like I was something precious makes me think that I’d made the right decision.
However I was not going to let him off so easily, especially making me suffer for the last few days. “If there’s a next time, I’m going to let Eunhyuk deal with you.” I said, I knew he was scared of Hyukjae. I could feel him stiffen when I mentioned Hyukjae. I wanted to say something more but his phone rang at that moment. He pulled slightly away from me to pick up the call; he seemed to be nervous about something. He was hiding something from me again.
“Hello? Erm… I’m at Junsu’s place now.” He said into the phone.
“Who’s that?” I asked.
“Changmin. We agreed to go somewhere.” Micky replied, not looking at me. They were up to something.
“Ask him to come over.” I said to Micky, he looked nervous.
“Erm… Changmin, Junsu said to come over to his place.” Micky said. I could hear the loud voice of Changmin cussing on the phone; his vocabulary seems to be deteriorating.
In minutes, we heard the knock on the door and I went to open it to let Changmin in. He was avoiding my eyes, a sure sign he was up to no good. He didn’t even ask how I was?
“So where are you guys going?” I asked them, looking from one to the other, searching for the answers on their guilty faces. They looked at each other, not wanting to be the one to answer me. Do they think they could hide from me? Before I could ask anything else, a knock on the door came. I could see both of them heaving a sigh of relief. I went to open the door and Hyukjae was there. I knew he would come over sooner or later.
“So you are all here. Coming to tell tales?” Hyukjae snickered out as soon as he came into the room. This was interesting, I thought he was here to check on me but it seems he had another motive in mind. So Hyukjae is involved too and they didn’t want me to know.
“No. Of course not.” Changmin and Micky said in unison. This makes it even more suspicious.
“What is this about?” I finally asked, looking at all of them, since none of them want to tell me what was going on.
“Nothing.” Micky said. I knew he was not telling the truth so I looked at Changmin pointedly. Changmin withered under my look finally stammering out the truth. “Hyungs are having a duel.”
“We are going to the gym to pit our taekwondo skills against each other. It's just friendly fun. We haven’t done this for a while.” Hyukjae said looking at me so innocently, which of course wouldn’t work with me. When was he ever innocent? Was this his way of trying to teach Micky’s a lesson?
“Ok. I go too but I will stay on the sidelines today.” I said. It was no use stopping him; he will just find some other ways of getting Micky, maybe if he gets it out of the way now, it will be better for the both of them. Changmin and Micky was looking at me in disbelief, wondering why I listened to Hyukjae. I ignored them since they tried to hide this from me and I knew Hyukjae way better than they did.
“Let’s go then.” I said to them. We left and make our way to the place where we often practiced. We were surprised to see that Yunho and Jaejoong were there too.
“Hyungs, what are you doing here?” Changmin asked Yunho who was trying to teach Jaejoong some moves.
“Can’t you see, I’m teaching Jaejoong some moves, it’s better for him to learn some form of self defense? Who knows what will happen?” Yunho replied. I could see Micky nodding his head to that suggestion.
“What about you guys? Haven’t seen you here for a while?” Yunho asked us.
“Micky and Eunhyuk is having a duel to settle their differences.” I said, surprising them all with my statement. Micky was the most shocked; did he think I was that naïve to believe anything they tell me?
“This will be interesting to watch.” Yunho said, getting excited. He must have been bored to tears since he was such an active person.
The rest of them went to get changed while I, Jaejoong and U-know stayed there and waited. I caught Hyukjae when he came out.
“It’s good to test his skills but I don’t want to see any of you hurt. Don’t bully him.” I told Hyukjae as he was a dan higher than Micky and he nodded reluctantly.
When the rest of them came out, Hyukjae and Micky went onto the mats and faced each other. I looked at them circling each other like hawks each waiting for the chance to strike, each wary and cautious of the other. This was going to be a close fight.
“Who do you think will win?” Changmin asked me.
“Hyukjae.” I answered because I knew he had more reason to want to win and he was sneakier than Micky. The fight started and we kept quiet so as to not disturb the two of them. Hyukjae was fast but Micky managed to dodge his attacks though he got hit a few times too. He also managed to throw in a few of his own attacks on Hyukjae. However I knew Hyukjae and he was able to catch Micky off guard a couple of times with some fake moves.
They have been fighting for a while, with neither of them getting the better of the other. I could see that Micky was tiring when his movements become slower. Hyukjae like to tire his opponents out before making his final move. I saw him ready to strike and the words were out of my mouth before I could stop it. “Look out.” The next minute I saw Micky falling to the ground and Hyukjae standing over him, ready to give Micky another kick.
“That’s enough. You already won the match.” I told Hyukjae, eyes warning him not to make any more moves. I could see he was unhappy but he complied while I went towards Micky.
I moved to help Micky up, while saying to him, “You’re quite good, you’re just need some more practice before you can beat Eunhyuk. He’s way more devious than you are.” He was quite good and his skills could come in handy if we need to fight the mafia again in close proximity.
“Hyung, are you alright?” Changmin asked Micky in concern. I could see Micky rubbing the side where Hyukjae had kicked. It must have hurt. I thought I told him not to kick so hard.
“Eunhyuk, you should practice with Yunho hyung and stop picking on the weak.” I said to a smiling Eunhyuk, wiping the smile off his face immediately. Who asked him to kick so hard at Micky? He would be getting a few kicks too from U-know.
“Why would I be so stupid to spar with him?” Eunhyuk asked, looking at me. I smiled at him.
“Because I said so.” I retorted giving him a look, it’s either Yunho or me later. Hyukjae quickly moved to pull Yunho to the mats with him. However I was not done yet. I turned to Changmin and Micky and said, “The two of you should spar with each other.”
“But why?” Changmin whined.
“Because you need the practice and he is available.” I looked at Changmin, giving him a look too. He was getting too comfortable with being a student and had neglected his sparring skills. If that was not the case, why was he so slow in reacting to that attack the other day, which was more or less why we are all here now. He knew he lost when he saw the steel in my eyes.
They changed sparring partners after that. Changmin needed better coordination with his limbs, or maybe because his knee was still not completely recovered because he seemed to be using the other leg more. By the end of the session, all four of them were deadbeats, but I now have a good idea of how Micky would stand if we had to fight.
I was talking to U-know when I saw Micky glancing at Hyukjae and he made some excuse to leave to talk to Micky alone. It must have something to do with the duel. I kept an eye on them hoping that everything was going to be all right with the two. They seems to have come to an agreement of sort as Hyukjae left with Micky staring at his back. I went and stood beside Micky.
“Everything ok?” I asked him.
“Yes. Everything is fine now.” Micky smiled at me, holding my hand tightly in his.
