New Chapter

Today was my first day at the new job.

After a pretty non-eventful orientation session at Police HQ downtown (other than getting my BADGE NUMBER...no badge, but still!!!!), it was off to 55 Division to report for my first shift as a CIB (Crime Investigation Branch) Clerk. As with any new job, there's lots of info to take in. I remember my first couple of shifts at the restaurant and how overwhelming it was trying to learn everything at once. I gotta remind myself to give me enough time to take everything in and things should be fine.

I didn't do much today. Just a bit of data entry (*yawn*) to learn how things run and get use to one of the systems they use. Because I took an oath of confidentiality, I have to be careful what I write on here. But what I can say though is that this shit is gonna be pretty interesting.

I took a tour of the precinct and while some parts are totally movie/tv-like, other things are totally different than Hollywood. They have some holding cells, but they wouldn't let me go in with my tin cup. Too bad...I really wanted to sing "Let My People GOOOOOOOOO". They even have video games in the lunchroom...Ms. Pac Man and a shooting game, Police Trainer (did you expect anything different???). Most of the building looks like a scene from "Downtown". I wanna move up to HQ on College St., where it looks more like "Demolition Man".

The people are pretty cool so far. It's kinda intimidating when most of the people you see are uniformed police officers, but they seem ok so far. Shoot, I already got invited to a fund raising party where they do keg stands and give a trophy to whoever does it the longest. Fuckin' A buddy!!!!

To say the least, this is gonna be an interesting few months. It might not be exactly what I wanna do, but at least it won't be boring....just yet. But I do have a feeling that it'll get monotonous down the road. But by then, I hope I'd at least learn new skills to put on my resume.

So I might not get a gun, a badge or even a nightstick (like I wanted one anyway...I don't wanna be a cop!!!), but I'm sure as hell hanging my pass on my rear view mirror. I wanna see if it'll get me out of speeding/parking tickets.

Oh...and I didn't see even ONE box of donuts.
