(no subject)

i was asked this question by a parent a couple of weeks ago with a 15 year old taking pure lit - 'how do i get her to like studying lit?'

regrettably, i didn't have a good answer then. i said i personally didn't have a problem with liking lit so i wouldn't be able to advise. what i should have said is lit embodies thinking. do you like thinking? then you will like lit. even if you don't like the books - don't treat lit as a subject. it is a process of discovery. the best grades i got were a result of personal responses, for both set and unseen texts.

lit allows you to be yourself - what other subject other than music or art allows you to express your thoughts and attitudes? you get to explore what is said, what is unsaid. you get to argue for your side of the story and appreciate the different takes that others have. it opens your mind.

do you like taking chances? then take lit.
