I went to Germany and then I came back!

I went to Hamburg, Germany. Obviously, I survived. This is a bit later then I expected, but I haven't had much time to sit down and write all at once. Things came up, some of it I knew about, some of it unexpected. It's still a bit surreal on how all of this was only three weeks ago!

First off, before anything else )

That was a fascinating read, thanks for sharing. :) It was very nice seeing you again, and yes, I hope it won't be another ten years until we do this again! Glad that you enjoyed it and that I was able to give you a (well-deserved) confidence boost, too.

Niederegger is a well-known high-quality brand. I'm sure you can get it in the USA; it's not cheap, but sometimes you gotta treat yourself.

And I do hope that you'll be able to visit Germany again, too, be it as a student or just for fun!

For example, she was extremely interested when I mentioned that I was visiting Schnee in Kiel. ("Does your husband know you're meeting a man? Don't worry, I won't tell him. Call me if you plan to stay overnight, I don't want to worry!")

...what, really? I'm not sure if I should flattered or insulted. :P

You can observe so many things just by watching.

Hey, that's a Yogiism! (Very true, too.)

Of course, I also saw many advertisements that would never be seen in America (not just in the Reeperbahn area, either).

I was thinking that when we walked past Paul Heyck (the coffee store) here - not sure if you noticed them, but they have those advertising signs out thave have a pair of blackamoors on them; very old, very much a curiosity and a throwback to centuries past nowadays, but I still thought that it was something that wouldn't fly in the USA.

I never realized this, but I have a smiley face on the left pant leg of my jeans, made from the fade wash of the jeans. Pretty impressive too. I found this out because my left pant leg was apparently screened as a security threat at Detroit Metro.

Smiley faces on jeans are a security threat? That's so bizarre you couldn't make it up - funny, though.

It is available in the USA, although the vast majority of stores only sell it around Christmas. Plus, a much smaller selection is available, at least compared to standing in the physical store!

I will, eventually. It’s just a matter of time, money, and how my education goes.

She really held some interesting ideas.

I did notice, but I guess at that point, I was quite used to the difference in advertisements. (Sadly, considering the state of things rumbling on here right now, I’m sure that they would be considered acceptable in some places around the USA.)

I don’t think it was the smiley face itself, although that is when I noticed it. My pants have always set off American security and I haven’t the faintest idea why. Doesn’t seem to matter what pair of jeans or pants I wear either.
