Today was a really good day. Long, but good.
My team leader (Sgt. Freeland), Sgt. Pope, VP, and myself were out setting up tents and netting for the NCO of the Year competition that they are grading tomorrow. It's always a lot of fun with those two because they like to joke around and have a good time.
My squad got a new guy last Thursday and today my TL informed me that I am going to be his mentor. He is now my soldier. Wherever I go he goes, whatever we are told to do I'm suppose to show up and explain what we are doing and why. It's kind of cool for me because its really going to help me develop my leadership skill. I've been ready for a while to step up and take charge. We are deploying very soon and when I come back from Iraq I am being told to not be surprised if I come back a Sergeant. I dont know about all of that, I wouldnt be surprised at all. It just feels good to be looked at as a future leader.
In other news, I bought an iPod today. I went with the 30gig because 7500 songs is plenty for me. I also bought Blazing Saddles and The Burbs. Hilarious.
Another long day tomorrow, I should hit the hay.
