My mind seems to be on BSG mode and I can't stop thinking about it.
It makes sense really, I've been thinking about it at night for the past few weeks. I like to work on the plot lines to my fics as I wander off into dream-land, so the real question is why I'm not yet dreaming in it. I probably am, I just don't remember them.
Anyway, dreams aside, today I got back home from a morning out visiting some friends (one of whom was very saucy) and started to surf the internets (no surprise there). Somehow I found a bunch of videos from Bear McCreary's latest live concert at the California Plaza in LA. Even though I've heard most of the music before, and I'm not one to listen to live versions, I decided to play them through.
Oh my gods, am I glad I did. They were all great performances, including an awesome scene with the marvelous Katee Sackhoff playing piano with McCreary for their last performance, a rendition of that awesome scene from "Someone to Watch Over Me" with McCreary playing the role of Kara's father. Absolutely bone-chilling music that is a delight to watch. There is also a performance of Gaeta’s Lament, another moving piece of music with great vocals attached to it.
After I went through and watched all of the
performances (which can be found on McCreary's
Blog) I sought out the NPR interview of him on All Things Considered. Good interview with a selection of his works. I just laid on the floor next to my subwoofer, feet on the door, and smiled the whole way through.
The soundtrack for Season 4 is scheduled to come out on the 28th and it's going to be a 2 CD set! Wow! One whole CD is reserved for "Daybreak" alone with the "Assault on the Colony" track weighing in at over fifteen minutes long! *faint* Sooo awesome. I love his battle scores so this will be like . Full track listing is
here along with more information on the upcoming soundtrack.
This got me thinking more about the music and how I would love to hear some of the compositions from "Razor". Never fear, McCreary has got us covered. He's planning on releasing music from both "Razor" and "The Plan" later this year.
But wait, there's more!
There are several other future releases that I’m working to bring to all of you. As I mentioned before, I’m hoping to assemble a multi-CD set of un-released material from all four seasons, perhaps even including demos, sketches, out-takes, source pieces and other odds n’ ends I’ve produced for the series. I am certain that there will be more “Music of Battlestar Galactica” concerts this year and next, one of which will hopefully lead to a concert DVD. There are also tentative plans for more ballet performances, orchestral concert suites, documentaries and sheet music releases. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is… I’m not done delivering the Galactica goods. :)
Source M-m-multi-CD set of unrelaeased material from ALL FOUR SEASONS?! And a c-c-concert DVD?!
Be still my beating heart! I don't think a fangirl can take anymore. I just need to lie down for a minute here....ok, breathe...breathe....
To say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement. It seems that BSG will get a treatment much like Star Wars did (my first soundtrack I ever fell in love with) with most of the music being released. It's just amazing, really. The music contributed so much to BSG and to have it all available to listen to whenever I want to...it's a gift from the gods. Really, it is. I love it.
I've also come to realize that, after re-watching clips of "Someone to Watch Over Me", that I really need to go back over the series, start to finish. I just want to wait until I can afford the Blu-Ray version of the series before I do. And after I watch "The Plan", of course. Can I really wait that long? I'm hoping to re-watch the mini-series next week with my mom (finally got her to agree to watching it! So cool).
There were other highlights to my day that had nothing to do with BSG (shocking!). I had a ton of fun with my feisty boy toy this morning, including rubbing his freshly shaved head. I wanted to take him home just so that I could rub his head while I read. Sigh. I love him to bits, I really do.
After listening to McCreary all afternoon, I went looking through my closet for an internal to external HDD case I bought a while ago (I had just busted open my old WD MyBook HDD that stopped working a few months ago. It works fine outside of its external casing and it had the most adorable mini SATA cable I have ever seen! It was an inch long and, OoO, how cute!). However, instead of finding the case I found the scabbard to my Kingdom of Heaven replica of the Sword of Ibelin. I've been looking for that for months now, I was afraid I lost it, and, lo and behold, it was at the top of my closet. Silly me. :) And it still smelled like rich leather. Mmmm.
Of course, that resulted in me grabbing my katana and other swords for an oiling party downstairs in the wide-open living room (new carpet was just installed so all the furniture was in the dining room and, yes, I used a rag to stop any leaks from getting on the floor!). Lots of fun. I should have done it a while ago, what with all the humidity in the air, but I've just been lazy.
Well, 'tis getting a bit late and I still wanted to write a bit before I crawled into bed. Then starts a nice, long weekend, with a vacation on the horizon. All things considered, I can't complain.
