Theres nothing sexual in that, that kind of relationship goes beyond gender and sex, but is built on years of trust and time spent together. Its not a sexual realtionship. And it shouldnt have to be! People can be soulmates, lovers, married, and never have sex ever. You know?
Exactly! I never, ever saw the Doctor and the TARDIS as a sexual relationship and I never, ever think it should be. But, they did it, and now it's taken as canon everywhere. I think my running theory for that episode will be that the TARDIS didn't know how to accurately express her excitement over seeing the Doctor so it came out a bit...off. She's still a ship and when was the last time you kissed a ship? Like that?
And as for the soulmates/lovers/married/sex thing, I agree on the soulmate bit, but for everything else I'd say that there was some sexuality problems running around. ;) But I do believe that my soulmate could be someone I will never meet in this lifetime, someone who is just being born, someone who is dying, someone who I would never be sexually attracted to, or just my best mate. The Doctor and the TARDIS are like that: they're soulmates because they know one another inside and out. The Doctor isn't the Doctor without the TARIDS and vice versa. Why must everything be about sex? It is not the be all, end all to relationships. /rant
Anyway...now that that's over with!
I think my plan of action on the smartphone is to wait until payday (next Monday) or until my birthday for the extra cash. I actually amassed $50 in coins from my coin jar today so there's half the price already. If I do buy it, which I'm pretty damn sure I will (and soon), I want it to be out of my own money and not someone else's. *shrug*
Embrace the Geek! Embrace the adulthood (ok, maybe not so much that)! Embrace me! There we go. I feel better now. Thanks. :)
I love my iPad for late night cruising on the internet (honestly for fics and smut, to be completely honest) and for doing said things while on my lunch break. Of course, there's also the apps, like Netflix, that allow me to relax and watch whatever I want. I even think I have V for Vendetta and Imagine Me & You on there, ripped from my DVDs. Now that makes for a happy lunch break. Yum.
However, I'm not sure about Photoshop in specific. Apple has created their own injunction against Adobe products, or at least Flash, so I'm not sure if you can get Photoshop exactly. You can read PDFs and the app store is brimming with photo editing/taking downloads. I mean, I love my iPad to bits (I call it PADD, after the Star Trek ones) and recommend it to anyone who wants something portable that isn't a laptop or netbook. Plus apps are shiny.
If I were to start on a new graphic novel series, nicely sci-fi and geeky, thats not too expensive and is accesible or orderable here, with a nice strong female character who I can fall in love with, where should I start?
Hmm, I might be able to help but can you give me a few days to glance through my collection? I have five comic book boxes of issues, not counting the TPBs and HCs I have, and when I went on my comic book buying spree, I was mainly looking for strong female leads. Unfortunately, most were set in medieval-ish settings and they wore horribly skimpy armor that had my cringing every panel. I know BSG had a run of comics, Elektra was pretty good (but not really sci-fi), and the Stargate: SG-1 issues were, obviously, sci-fi as well. The indie ones are your best bet but those have mostly gone out of business. Let me see what I can dig up for you and, most likely, if you'd be willing, I could either send over some extra copies to you, scan them in, or figure something out so you don't have to spend too much on them (other than perhaps postage if I let you borrow). How does that sound?
(And now that I think of it, some indie comics that are hard to find did have some strong female leads. May not be sci-fi enough for you but may work. Of course, if you needed book recs, I've made a list of awesome kickass sci-fi women I love to bits.)
ETA: I guess I'm back to my rambly self again. :D Sorry for long-ass comment.
