My new favorite hobby is sitting in the library, bitter cold on the other side of the brick walls (and sometimes on the inside too), while typing out an entry on my iPad. My lunch sits forgotten as I indulge in this little bit of happiness I can grab out of a rather boring workday. Don't let anyone fool you: working in a library can be exceptionally tedious, boring, and tiring. I admit that it can be fun (you do see a lot of books come and go, including the good ones) but most of the time I'm just bored. I still haven't figured out if it's a good thing that my boss knows this or not. At least she gives me various jobs to do during the week and tries to spice up the ordinary day for me. And it looks like she'll give me Friday off this week, which is just absolutely fantastic. I can never say that I had a bad or evil boss; she does have her cranky days (so don't we all) but she's reasonable and never asks us to do something that she couldn't do herself. Well, maybe except for the tech part of my job, which is completely unofficial. :)
Speaking of technology, I believe that one of my year goals (different from resolutions, mind you) is to get a CompTia A++ certification for myself. At least than I can say that I have some credentials when it comes to fixing computers other than having the word of some family member. Plus, I think that I could really start a decent business in the computer field. I've got small hands, ie I can get into the guts of the computer a lot better than someone with large, bulky hands. Sometimes it pays to be small. :)
As for other year goals...I haven't really picked them out yet, other than being better about my anxiety and perhaps even taking up my mom's resolution and meditating for ten minutes 340 days out of the year. Hard to go wrong with that.
However, starting tonight, I'm beginning a 100-200 word a day writing quota that will last at least 30 days, although I will give myself Thursdays off as I need to do the
torchwood_three newsletter. My hope is that, by the end of that 30 days, a habit will have formed and I'll be writing like crazy. *shrug* Worth a shot at least.
Alright, now for something completely random: my co-worker, the one I got into DW a bit ago, has given me his collection of "Absolutely Fabulous" (the first three, original series) to watch. It's a British comedy from the 90s and, as he told me, it will explain a lot about his own behavior and quirks as this was the show that he loved during his 20s and sort of put it's mark on him. Might explain a lot. ;)
Anyway, along with Fringe seasons 1 and 2 coming in the mail today, I also have this other show to watch (which looks hilarious by just reading the text on the back of the DVD set) and a bunch of books that have suddenly made their way to my bed stand from various boxes in the house. And the BBC's Sherlock is also on my to-watch list. Oh my. Lots to do.
But I have Friday off! Yay!
