Warnings: Hint at past sex
Notes: Sorry for the short chapter, next one’s going to be longer. And for the posting schedule, I’m going to start for every Saturday, which means the next part should be up then.
Kris had the feeling he was being watched, that tingling sensation that started at his neck and ears and just spread, but he ignored it. Instead, he concentrated on Aiden. He’s been a friend of Tommy’s since Kris met him, the man too prideful to be taken in like Kris was. He’d always been a source of guidance for Kris, too. Which is all the reason he was here now.
“I really have no idea what to do…” He sighed, and Aiden clapped him on the back, grinning at him.
“Well, do you really think it’s fair to cut things off after one date.” Warm blue eyes looked him over, and Tom rearranged himself so he was fully facing Kris. “Okay, so, you know that you like him and he likes you, and so far he hasn’t invaded your privacy, right?” Kris nodded. “Well then what is there to worry about?”
Kris huffed. “I haven’t thought about what happened that night for years, and all the sudden it pops up again?” Kris shook his head. The only people who know everything of what happened to him were Tommy, Alli and himself, and Aiden was the only other who knew anything else about him. He intended to keep it that way, and sooner or later Adam was going to ask about it, he knew it.
The other man sighed. “Maybe it’s about time you start to face that again.” He held up a hand. “Take it from someone with experience; the only way to get to healing wounds like that is to face it and sow it back together yourself. You can’t have anyone else do it for you, no matter how much you don’t want to do it.” He paused a moment as Kris considered that, then grinned. “Maybe this guy can help you with it. If you let him in.”
Kris grimaced, then shook his head and laughed. “God, you are so annoying.”
Aiden winked at him then squeezed back hard when Kris leaned down to hug him. “I’m annoyingly right most the time.” When they pulled back Aiden’ blue eyes searched out Kris. “Now, at least consider what I’m telling you, okay? We all just want you to be happy.”
Kris sighed and nodded. “Yeah, I’ll think about it.” He pulled up and started walking out, not noticing Adam pulling back around the corner, and started heading home, thinking about the man he was missing, thinking about how much he had wanted to just give in and call despite how bad it would be for him. But everyone could be right. Maybe it was time to move on, and the best way to do that would be to face it. And, he had a feeling Adam would be willing to help him, even if they barely knew each other. We’re close enough it doesn’t matter how long ago we met. He blushed slightly and smiled. Or how we met…
His smile melted away when he thought he saw… he's the right age, and the same build… Kris let out a breath and kept walking, speeding up his steps a bit. Not him… He reached into his pocket to take hold of his phone anyway, keeping it there the whole rest of the way home, making sure to keep his head down.
Kris pushed the door to his room shut, pausing for a moment as he rubbed his thumb over his phone. Maybe… He smiled and pulled the phone out. Yeah. I miss him… He hesitated again when he thought that. I do… I miss Adam. He laughed lightly to himself and leaned back against the door. I haven’t felt like this about… anyone for… years. The last thought made his smile disappear, and he looked down at his phone, tracing his thumb along Adam’s name on the contact list. This is scary… but… it’s good. He nodded, then pressed the call button and waited.
Adam was back in his apartment, absently running his finger along the rim of his glass, humming lines of music along with the soft ringing. He jumped and nearly knocked over the glass when his phone vibrated in his pocket. He answered without checking to see who was calling, his heart hammering. “Hello?”
“Adam?” Kris? Adam broke into a huge smile.
“Kris! Hi.” He knew he was smiling a little goofy, but he really couldn’t help it. “Um…” He paused for a moment, his smile fading. “Is this the good call or the bad one?”
Kris was quiet for a second, then he chuckled. “The good one.” Adam went right back to beaming as Kris continued. “I thought this out a bit and… I think it could be good for me… for us to let this play through a bit more.”
Adam let out a sigh and smiled. “Alright.” He sunk a bit deeper into the couch cushions and closed his eyes, letting his smile grow. “Good…”
Kris paused for a moment, then cleared his throat. “So… um.” Adam sat up again. He sounds more nervous now. I wonder if this is about that nightmare he had… Kris let out a breath. “I really want to see you, think maybe I could come by your place?”
“Yeah, yeah, of course.” Adam stood up, already grabbing up his boots and keys when he paused for a moment. “Um, you want me to come get you?”
“Nah.” Adam’s shoulders fell and he had to bite back a sigh; he wanted to see Kris now, dammit. “I think the walk will good for me.”
“Kay…” He dropped everything back in its place and looked around the apartment. “I’ll see you in a bit then.”
“Alright.” Kris smiled as he hung up and bounced on his heels for a few seconds before rushing out the door. The knot that had just made itself noticed when he heard Adam’s voice starting to unravel as he moved down the street toward Adam’s apartment. He trailed his fingers over the walls over buildings, humming to himself, glancing up when he got to the right building and grinning seeing the light glowing from Adam’s window.
He let out a soft sigh before opening the door after Adam told him it was unlocked, bounding up the stairs until he got to Adam’s apartment door. He was pulled in even before he knocked.
