Room 407, Friday afternoon-evening-night

Sky felt exhausted after leaving the welcoming picnic, even though he hadn't really done much. Admittedly, he wasn't keen on the idea of having an overenthusiastic turtle for a roommate, but Mikey, with his happiness and exuberance, in a way reminded him of Bridge, so that was a little consolation. Some of his fears that he wouldn't fit in at ( Read more... )

Not seeing his little brother at the picnic, Teddy headed to the dorms for some searching.

And was pleasantly surprised to find the guy on his floor.

He knocked lightly on the door. "Hello?"

Sky looked up at Teddy now, pasting that small smile on his face.

"Hi there. Come on in and join the little party here. I'm Sky Tate, just moved here this morning."

Teddy smiled back, wide and genuine. "Oh, thank god. I was worried I'd have to keep looking around the dorms for you." He put a hand out. "I'm Teddy, you're older brother. Kinda."

Sky immediately brightened, shaking the offered hand.

"Ah, yeah, I was hoping you'd be by," he said. "I'm Sky, I'm sure you already know. I was told to look out for you before I arrived this morning, but I didn't see you at the picnic."

"I was there. For a bit," Teddy replied sheepishly. "I'm never good at those big things. Waaay to many people around."

"I understand," said Sky, nodding. "I have to confess I wasn't happy to be sent here, so I just stayed long enough to meet my roommate, then left to come back here and unpack. I've met a few nice people, though, so I'm feeling slightly less anti-social."

Nodding, Teddy grinned at that. Getting sent here seemed horrible at first to him too. "It gets a lot better here. I kinda had the same problem when I first arrived."

"That's good," Sky replied. "I came from a police academy, so that's the kind of environment I'm used to. It seems..." He hesitated. "... a lot less formal here," he finished a little lamely. "I guess I'll just have to get used to it, though, since I'm stuck. I was sent here because apparently my superiors think my social skills are underdeveloped. Or as they so childishly put it, I 'needed to learn how to play nice with other kids'." He scoffed.

"Police?" Teddy asked, a bit wary. "Aren't you too young for that stuff?"

"Well... I'm 18 now," Sky replied. "I've been in training for several years. I wasn't put on active duty until I was 17, of course, but for the most part it's physical and simulated training, so it's relatively safe."

Teddy nodded slowly. "Active duty? Like what did you do?"

"Patrols. Catching petty thieves and carjackers. Boring kind of stuff like that," Sky said with a little laugh. "I'm not quite a high enough rank to do much else yet; I will be soon. I thought I was going to advance, actually, til I got sent here. So... why did you get sent here?"

That got Teddy to relax a bit.

"Um... a custody battle at first, but I'm here kinda for training now."

"Oooh." Sky winced slightly, not quite sure how to respond. "Well, do you like it here, at least? What do you all do for fun around here, anyway?"

"A lot!" Teddy replied, more than willing to go with the subject change. "Once you get used to how weird it can be sometimes, the classes are actually pretty helpful."

"That's good to know," Sky replied. "What classes are you in? I'm taking, er, excuse me..." He fumbled around in the stack of books he'd been unpacking, finding his handbook and taking out a slip of paper on which his schedule was written. "Ye Shall Be As Gods... Tactics 201... and Conflict Management. I didn't choose that last one; apparently whoever sent the paperwork in thought it was funny."
