I started 2008 in a Subaru Forrester having just entered Washington DC off the 14th Street bridge. I leaned over and smooched my Bunny, doing a little dance of glee in my seat at the exciting and new year ahead of us. I asked Bunny what his hopes were for the new year; his answer was inner peace. He asked me and I said that I hoped for continued health, happiness and prosperity for myself, my family and my loved ones (you'll see this again in the survey). Then we drove down 8th St. SE and waved to the bar at which my friend D was celebrating and drove home. We pulled onto our street and were greeted shortly thereafter by
pegsioux, who climbed down the stairs in her PJs after her long winter's nap. We loaded the apartment with an Everest-esque mountain of crap and then crashed face first in the bed.
So I hope that 2008 holds lots of traveling and moving for me/us. I'm looking forward to adventures to places known and unknown, including Boston and Switzerland, and actually taking a well-deserved summer vacation! I'm excited about all the newness, most of all. Time to make amends, to start over, to start for the first time and more than anything else, time to enjoy the splendor that is a constantly renewing slate of possibility.
I spent last year fixing a lot of things. Myself, my health, my relationships and friendships, and so on. I ended the year being more sure of who I was and where I was going than I HAVE EVER BEEN IN MY LIFE. I know who my friends and family are and I can count on them AND they can count on me. I live in a place that I love, with someone I love, and we just have a whole lotta love around us. For this I'm grateful and EXCITED!
So Happy [belated] 2008, people. May this year be the beginning of the beginning of the new for you all, and may you all find nothing by happiness and glee.
1) Where did you begin 2007?
Drinking champagne in Surprise, Arizona with my brother and his BFF Jenny. It was quiet and low key. Oh, and I was missing my Bunny like nobody's business!
2. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Had a nebulizer treatment! No seriously, I confronted demons, stood up for myself in the face of radical shittiness, cut the nonsense out of my life, called people on their bullshit (apologized for mine), became ridiculously crafty and enjoyed every second of it, and moved in with the love of my life. Oh, and I also became an asthmatic!
3. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't make new year's resolutions, because generally I forget them. I did make them for this year, in a way: I wished for continued health, happiness and prosperity for myself, my family, friends and various 'sundry loved ones.
4. Were you in school (anytime this year)?
I work at a skewl, fools.
5. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Close to me? Nope.
6. Any new additions to your family?
Lots of new extended family in the form of future in-laws (or in-outlaws, depending on the political climate in which it happens).
7. Did anyone close to you die?
Jonathan died, and that was an interesting start to a whole season of death processing. I sit here now incredibly proud of myself for crying all of the tears (and then some) for the deaths I experienced as a kid and teenager.
8. Did you know anybody who got married?
Yes, Bethany and Jason. And my brother's BFF James.
9. What countries did you visit?
I didn't leave this one. *groan*
10. How did you earn your money?
I worked for The Man, also known as George Mason University. I also sold some jewels on Etsy.
11. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, bills, and little things to make me happy.
12. Did you have any encounters with the police?
I did not! And phew to that!
13. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A miniature dachshund named Herbert Cadbury. We shall call him Herbie.
14. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
No particular dates. December 10th was pretty special, though.
15. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I'm particularly proud of all the self-advocacy I've engaged in this year. I fought tooth and nail for a lot of the things that I would have previously overlooked or ignored in order to keep the peace or because I was lazy.
16. What was your biggest failure?
I don't think I've failed, at all.
17. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Asthma!
18. Where did you go on holidays/vacation?
Nowhere, dammit. That's certainly a goal for this year though.
19. What was the best thing you bought?
All the things to make our apartment homey, I think.
20. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My Bunny's!!!
21. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Tara and Liz.
22. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My crafting. I'm seriously in love with it.
23. Did you move anywhere?
I finally left the state of Virginia!! I moved to Washington DC.
24. Where do you live now?
Oh, um, Washington DC.
25. What song will always remind you of 2007?
I don't have just one song, you know. There's an entire soundtrack that has fueled this year. I'm most excited, as per usual, by Nat King Cole, though.
