Character

Name: Simba
Fandom: The Lion King
Gender: Male
Age: Adult
Time Period: Shortly after the end of the first movie; some of the events mentioned in the second movie have happened and will be incorporated
Wing Color: Brown (matching his mane)
History: Lion King, Lion King 2, and Simba's page
Personality:
From a very young age, Simba behaved like most spoiled children, which is to be expected of a young prince. Always eager to explore and get himself into trouble, kind of a brat, and very entitled. He's friendly, but he's quick to take all the credit for a joint effort (ex. when he took credit for Nala's idea for ditching Zazu). He's quick to get into a fight, and can barely sit still. Like any kid, he can't stand to be told what to do. He's remarkably naïve and trusting, and is fooled by his uncle Scar on two separate occasions. All of these traits are tossed into the air, once Mufasa is killed. Until he meets Timon and Pumbaa, Simba is left to grieve and, having been told by Scar that he was to blame for his father's death, abandon his family to cope with the guilt.

Once he met with Timon and Pumbaa, he was taught a new system of morality that contradicted his prior training as a prince; the philosophy of "Hakuna Matata". He was given a way to escape his grief through dismissal, and it allowed him to grow up in the jungle. His childish personality started to settle, again, and while he was still immature, he was no longer entitled and no longer did he seek out danger. With the guilt of his father's death and the near-death experience, he in fact became very cautious with time, shirking responsibility to avoid anything bad happening. Though, as we see in Lion King 1½, he doesn't know better about a lot of things until he grows and learns. Just short of meeting Nala, Simba had grown into a fun-loving, friendly guy (akin to a bachelor!), who was quick to shirk responsibilities and was heavy in denial. Though he seemed like a happy person, he was overcome with guilt, which was certainly not helped by the method of denial he used.

When Nala returned, he was forced to confront his past. The opportunity to speak with the ghost of Mufasa gave him the courage and sense of responsibility that he had been taught as a cub, and he overcame his laziness and dismissal and returned to the Pridelands. When confronting Scar, he was challenged with his guilt again, showing it to be a terrible weakness that created fear and submission in him. Scar nearly had Simba tossed over the edge of Pride Rock, until he revealed that he was the one who killed Mufasa. This unlocked Simba's rage, his true anger, and he chased down his uncle. He swore not to stoop down to Scar's level, however, in killing his own family, instead banishing his uncle. When Scar attacked, he fought until he kicked Scar down a cliff, leaving Scar to atone for his betrayal to the hyenas without killing his uncle himself. Then, he assumed the throne.

Taking into consideration what The Lion King 2 shows of his rule, we are left with a very young and inexperienced king, who is still learning how to be a leader. Though he doesn't believe he caused his father's death, he does still have residual guilt, and he worries about whether or not he can measure up to his father's reign. But more importantly, he is a very loving and kind king, and though he is still learning he is naturally suited to his role, able to fill a leadership role and able to inspire peace and cooperation amongst others. There may be a little bit of that impishness from his childhood, but he's grown into a respectable, responsible lion.

Strengths:
Though Simba does not have any magical powers, he does have a physical prowess that is noteworthy even for a lion, much like his father. He has a solid build, without losing agility or flexibility, and represents what can be admired as the prime condition of a healthy lion.

What makes Simba a good king is his strong understanding of what is ultimately right and wrong. He is fair and just, and though once an uncertain person, he is emotionally resolute and will see things through to the end. After coming to terms with himself, he is able to challenge Scar for the throne, and does not go back on his oath not to kill his family as his uncle did.

Weaknesses:
To say that Simba has demons is a severe understatement. Though he has mostly come to terms with it and moved on, he is still greatly hurt by his father's death, and still feels in some way responsible for it. He also has issues with trying to fill in his father's footsteps, constantly comparing himself to his father and more often than not, devaluing himself. Though he has a lot of confidence restored, it is not as unabashed as it was in his youth, and can surface at times.

Samples (ALL samples must be set in Luceti-verse.)

First Person: Q&A

Third Person: It wasn't very often that Simba woke up shivering and cold. And damp - it smelled as if it were rainy season, though it certainly wasn't supposed to be. Not yet. He slowly hauled himself to his feet, rolling his shoulders and grimacing at the ache. He looked to see what it was, and saw wings that were roughly the shade of his mane.

"Hey, get off, will ya?" he half-heartedly laughed, expecting the wings to belong to a strange bird. When the 'bird' didn't fly off as he jolted himself around, he carefully stretched and reached to grab a wing in his mouth. That was about the point, when he pulled on it, that he realized that it was most certainly attached to his body. "Yowch! What the...?"

Though he spent a little more time on exploring his new wings, figuring out how to flutter them voluntarily, he soon became aware again of his surroundings. He was no stranger to forests, having spent half of his life growing up in the jungle. But this place was no jungle. It was so cool, even with the sun in the sky. Everything felt funny on his feet, from the strange twigs and damp grass to the presence of moss, ferns, and general temperate climate plants; all of which he was very unfamiliar with. The scents were strange and foreign, though there was a strong musk that was pretty clear enough as a territorial marking, making him even more uneasy. Being without a pride was disadvantage enough, and even if there wasn't much to contest a lion, any large gathering of predators could seriously hurt him if he wasn't careful about encroaching upon their territory.

Moving through the trees, trying to find the direction with less territory marking, he came across a strange place with structures that looked... a little like pride rock, but far too flat on its sides and its top. He hesitated only for a bit, before entering the village of Luceti to find the answers he sought.
