[Hey, the lion's out again! He's in the market, and seems to be looking for more bedding. He's gotten a good helping of blankets, that he's carrying on his back as he goes, but eventually he starts pulling out clothes. He sets a sweater on the ground to look at it, and laughs a little.]

That's strange, why's it shaped like that?

[Maybe Simba ( Read more... )

It's for people who need extra furs.

Considering you humans don't have anything but a mane, I'm not surprised.

[Switches an arm into a fiery blue wing.]

Who are you calling human? [Amused. But the fiery warmth might be why the guy is comfortable running around in sandals and with his shirt unbuttoned. For now.] You don't exactly look like you have a lot of fur for winter either though.

[Switches it back to a normal arm instantly and holds up two human hands to show he's not carrying weapons or fire.]

Easy there.

[He's gotten to used to the New World where almost everyone knew of his reputation, or even just Luceti, where the unusual abounded as the normal for this place.]

I guess you've never heard of a phoenix before, eh? Relax, my flames can't hurt anyone. They don't burn, just heal.

"Your" flames?

[But fire is bad and has always been a bad thing 8| It causes a lot of death in a dry environment like Simba's.]

It's like feathers. Or your mane. A phoenix is a type of bird, where the feathers look like fire.

It doesn't burn though. [Concentrates and produces some blue sparkles off his his hand, these do nothing either, they just... sparkle. Kind of like pixie dust that can't make anyone else fly.] Here. See? [Sprinkles over the ground where they would just slowly dissipate after doing nothing.]

...I've never seen anything like that before.

[And Simba is still very wary!]

...I guess.

[Simba's not really getting any less tense, but at least he starts picking those blankets back up in his mouth and tossing them over his back.]

I've never heard of fire being anything but a killer.

[Stares at a little. For all the reactions he's gotten, fear of fire has never been one. It would make sense for an animal, but in his world, even animals aren't so afraid of flames.]

A phoenix is a bird who rebirths from flames. For some, they can be cleansing, healing. After fire cleans away debris on a forest floor, it gets rid of the decay and allows for new growth. New trees to be born and use the nutrients. Mine are more symbolic. For me, it's about that rebirth. Without the flames, for me, I would be alive.

Even if you were to poke them they wouldn't feel like fire. They don't burn, only heal.

[Dry climates, man, makes you extra jumpy about fires.]

...Yeah. It's a part of the circle of life.

[Buuut that doesn't mean he wants to get burned, so he's still pretty suspicious.]

Right. For a phoenix, it is that circle. Reborn in a burst of flame, unending healing fire.

[Holds out a human hand. Your choice bro, he won't Simba either way, but he doesn't want to keep scaring him by being what he is.]
