I now know what kangaroo tastes like.

Right now I'm using a dail-up connection from Lizard Island in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. It's supposed to be one of a handful of islands that is completely surrounded by the reef itself. After some frantic packing on Friday, I flew to LA from Seattle (3 hours) and then on to Sydney (14 hours). Then from Sydney to Cairnes (3 hours), and then a private plane (1 hour) to where I am now. It's good to see family, but there always seems to be an underlying tension as people try and contain their tempers due to weird sleep, travel, and eating schedules. 38 hours transit time for some people in my family does not exactly bring out the best.

I didn't really get a chance to explore the island yet, but we have another two days here. The ocean is warm, the beach is like talcum powder, and right before dinner we saw fruit bats flying all over the place. In the room I'm staying in there were complimentary peanut butter cookies in the fridge, and a bottle of yummy champagne already on ice for free as well. Which is, as you can tell, totally fucking rad.

Tomorrow we're going exploring around the island and beaches in boats, and bringing picnic lunches of ciabatta bread and tiger prawns. I'm telling you right now, these people know how to party.

PS - To all the UPS people that I did not have a chance to properly say goodbye to before I left, I'm very sorry. The last week and half of school was one of the most stressful academic experiences of my life. Hope everyone is doing well, and happy Festivus/Hanukkah/Christmas/Kwanzaa.
