I am declaring this a Barry-White-free zone. Deal with it.

Oookay, so I've kind of fallen off my resolution of blogging at least once a week - I mostly blame the evil sinus infection that laid me out for three weeks. Anyway, I'm trying to get back on the horse, so to speak, so I thought I'd do a corollary post to the love songs entry from Valentine's Day. While those songs were sweet and romantic, these are, erm, a little more earthy. More specifically, they're songs I find bow-chicka-wow-wow sexy. Here we go:

-“Close to Me” by The Cure - I think I can credit a good chunk of my appreciation of boys in eyeliner to Robert Smith.
-“The Dark of the Matinee” by Franz Ferdinand
-“Not Enough Time” by INXS
-“Fade Into You” by Mazzy Star
-“Portland, Oregon” by Loretta Lynn and Jack White - Interesting bit of trivia: Loretta didn't intend for this to be a duet, but when Jack was doing post production on it, he recorded his own vocals and mixed them in - I think it totally works, even if she's, like, 40 years older than he is.
-“Bathwater” by No Doubt - I know it is all kinds of masochistic and warped to find this song sexy, but I think the wrongness is part of the appeal - the thudding percussion and delirious horns don't hurt, either.
-“Between My Legs” by Rufus Wainwright - The music isn't really overtly sexy, but the lyrics? Oh, yeah.
-“Cry to Me” by Solomon Burke - I chalk this one up to the fact that it is in the love scene from Dirty Dancing, which I have seen approximately one billion times.
-“Dark End of the Street” by The Commitments
-“Sexy Ways” by Hank Ballard and the Midnighters - I discovered this on the soundtrack from The Notorious Bettie Page, which is fitting, as she most certainly did have sexy ways.
-“Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley - I am not even kidding - this was Elvis when he was still all edgy and dangerous.
-“Let Me Roll It” by Paul McCartney
-"The Point of No Return" from Phantom of the Opera - This is really a case of the particular rendition making the difference, because when I saw POTO on stage, this song was dramatic and beautifully sung, but it was nothing like the movie, where the hot-and-bothered factor gets cranked to 11. In fact, I think we need visual on this. Check it:

See what I mean? And maybe it makes me a bad person, but I think it's hilarious that smarmy control freak Raoul thinks he's being so clever by concocting his plan to catch the Phantom and then has to sit through that. Also, I've always wondered if it was intentional for her strap to slide off her shoulder as she sings the phrase "defenseless and silent" - it seems too perfectly orchestrated not to be.

So there - actual content! I will likely be doing more list-type posts, because, quite frankly, they're easy. If you have any requests, let me know. And if you have any sexy song recs, tell me that, too.
