My musings on the finale are behind the cut.
*I really, really liked it. A lot. The small complaints I could make (for example, what the heck happened to Whiskey?) are mostly up to the ending being rushed because of the cancellation. And there's not much the writers could do about that. I was kind of worried that they were going to do a complete reboot, like The Year That Never Was on Doctor Who (especially after the conversation at the table in Safe Haven), and I'm pretty sure that would have sucked, but this pleases me.
*Speaking of that table scene at Safe Haven - I thought it was awesome. I loved the sense of camaraderie that the cast was able to communicate - you could see how the characters' struggles had caused them to bond, and we all know how that "chosen family" thing is super important in the Whedonverse (creepy Boyd creepiness aside).
*I adore Felicia Day. I really do.
*Priya and Anthony are now officially the top couple in the Whedonverse because, besides being both badass and heart-meltingly adorable, they're the only ones to make it all the way to the conclusion of their story without getting shot in the head/evilfied/impaled by Reavers. Go, Priya/Anthony!
*Based on, you know, the entire premise of the show, I think I was supposed to feel at least marginally conflicted at the end when Paul was integrated into Echo, but really, it just made me go, "Yay!".
*I did feel conflicted about Alpha, though. Because I kind of loved him in this. And my brain was all, "Alpha is a raving psycho lunatic - YOU SHOULD NOT BE FINDING HIM THIS AWESOME!" But I did. Alan Tudyk rules (and he's a hometown boy - Dallas, represent!).
*Just had a thought - how much ginger win was there in this episode, between Alpha, Mag, and Zone? This is something TV needs more of, friends - redheads all around!
*How much do I love Topher? SO FREAKING MUCH! He turned out to be such a fantastic character (even if he did sound suspiciously like River when he was babbling at the beginning).
*Also fantastic? Adelle. I kind of want to be Olivia Williams when I grow up.
*I've read that they're not going to continue the story in comics or anything, as they have with Buffy, Angel, and Firefly, but I think it would be cool if they went back and filled in some of the gaps in the story, like how Alpha became a good guy, how Tony became the Road Warrior, how Mag and Zone found each other, what happened to Whiskey, and (as many people are asking on Whedonesque) what happened to Dominick. I'd definitely buy those comics.
*So I'm sad it's over, but satisfied with the way it ended. Here's to Joss getting a new project to inspire and delight us in the near future. Just not on Fox.
