First off, HUGE THANKS to everyone who commented on my last post and told me their stories. It really did help me a lot!
OK, so tonight I skipped out on my classes and went to an audition at a community theatre for the musical Oliver. It was the first NON-school audition I've ever been to.
There were 2 segments: singing and dancing. I sang The Stepsister's Lament from Cinderella by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which is a GREAT song! I think I was in the top 25% percent of the singers, based off volume and tone, (KNOCK WOOD) but the pianist they had SUCKED. She literally couldn't read my music and played sour notes at least an octave above where my voice was! By the end of the audition, people were singing a cappella even though it technically wasn't allowed. And no one argued with them, because it was THAT BAD.
I did okay at the dancing part. It was easier than I thought it would be, just a lot of very simple, almost mechanical moves. There were some people in their 50s and 60s there, so it was fun to watch THEM dance! :D (...but seriously, it's sweet to see senior citizens participating in the community.)
They are doing callbacks sometime in the future and that's when you'd read for the parts, if they're considering you for one. I was auditioning for Nancy, but if I'm lucky as HELL I will end up with Bet (KNOCK WOOD!), since she's also an alto and her character is my age.
If I'm not lucky, I'll get a part in the chorus, which will be fine by me, too. I need something for my resume and even dancing in the background sounds like fun at the moment! :)
I have 2 more auditions next week for two different theaters and I'll prep for those over the weekend. (one requires a song and 2 contrasting monologues, the other needs you to read from the script and sing a song from the musical, Camelot.)
Also, I'm officially joining a Polish folk-dancing troupe! No prior experience required; I think they're just looking for young people to add to their members, but I'm okay with that! Again, it looks like fun, good for networking, good to get in shape, and something to put in the "special talents" portion of my resume!
