Character Information
Name: Lavi
Fandom: D. Gray Man
Timeline Summary: Chapter 187
Personality:

Overall, Lavi is a funny, spontaneous, confident, guy with a sense of humor along with some painful memories, a mind that can store information like the internet, a really cool weapon, and a Grandpa that resembles a Panda.

Lavi is one of those people who is constantly joking around and prodding others. He goes from simple teasing to drawing mustaches on his friends while they’re sleeping. Basically, he likes to purposely annoy them for his own entertainment. As long as he can get away with it without getting killed or causing any real harm then he figures it’s alright. After all, Lavi isn’t one to go over board and seriously hurt someone emotionally. His teasing is all in good fun.

He's so good at memorizing that it would be considered overkill godmodding if it wasn’t canon. His ability to take in information is absolutely amazing considering one chapter covers how he’s able to find one key in a mess of a million other because he was able to remember all “the scratches, the dirt, all the patterns of the plating of the real key.” Since he's able to memorize so much, he’s also pretty smart. He can talk about history more than any history teacher ever could, and he can probably name more books than one even knew existed. The good thing about all of this is that he doesn’t flaunt how great his memorization skills are. He can actually come off as an idiot if one doesn't know him too well.

If a pretty woman is walking down the street and Lavi just happens to see her he’ll be all over her. Most of them time he’ll yell out “STRIKE!” before instantly going over to the lovely lady and ravishing her with compliments and all those sorts of things. With Lavi’s luck, he usually ends up hitting on Akuma by mistake.

Lavi has some issues. There was a time  when he wasn’t particularly fond of people because being a bookman was huge to him. Everyone else, in his point of view, were idiots. Being the funny guy was, at first - more or less, just a gimmick until he realized that he was beginning to harbor feelings for his fellow members in the Black Order. There was some period of denial and such, but it all worked out. Anyways, It’s definitely safe to say that the person he is now is his true self (or rather, he’s become that kind of person) so he isn’t too much of a secret jerk anymore.

Now, he certainly does seem to be a social butterfly without any cares in the world, but he still has his own fair share of issues and secrets. It’s pretty easy to get on his good side and establish some sort of friendship but really getting to know him is a bit tough. Not that it matters though, he’d rather forget about what kind of person he use to be anyways.

In the course of battle or a serious situation/conversation, Lavi will go through a variety of moods. Sometimes, his normal happy attitude will shift to a more stern and serious mood. Other times, he’ll act cocky and make jokes. It all really depends on what’s going on at the time and/or how tough the enemy is. There are times when his mood will go from frustrated to content in an instant or he’ll just be over emotional. He might be too angry, too frustrated, or just too bothered by the sound Krory’s stomach makes when he’s hungry . It’s almost ironic for someone who was a professional at hiding their self to have such a weak grasp on hiding their emotions. However, Lavi is usually able to put himself back together pretty quickly if he does slip. In regards to his close friends at the order, he cares greatly for them and will probably be willing to face death before he lets them get hurt.

Background:

Lavi's known history begins at age six when he started his training as Bookman's (presumably his Grandfather) successor. The whereabouts of his parents, location of birth, and nationality are unknown while his true name serves mystery as well. Whatever his life was like before the age of six, it has been forgotten due to his early career choice of perusing the path of a Bookman. Starting his training, he began traveling with Bookman and learning the fundamentals of martial arts and medical skills with plenty of books to read in between.

At age seven, Lavi had a near death experience due to a stray bullet and the outcome of the whole situation was an unhappy Bookman with less hair than he had before (Lavi had been tugging on Bookman's hair during his unconscious state). As years followed, Lavi grew cold and began to harbor a disliking towards people due to their loudness and general stupidity. People, to Lavi, were merely ink on paper and nothing more.

At sixteen, Lavi joined the Order (this was possibly close to the time where he received/found his Innocence as well). It's when he's eighteen that he's introduced into the manga at the Rewinding Town where he meets Miranda and Allen. His history continues with him being at the Order where he creates true bonds with the other members. It's during a fight with Rhode or 'himself' where he truly recognizes that he's becoming attached to his fellow members, and this is also the point when he chooses to accept the fact that people don't suck as much as he thought.

First Person:  Ah....I'm gonna blame you're brother for this, Lenalee.

...Lenalee?

Allen?

Yu?

Oi.

Third Person: With all the disorganization and general insanity the Order has been going through as usual, Lavi has been having quite a time juggling the jobs of Exorcist and Bookman. Increasing Akuma attacks and more information on the war pouring through means double duty for him. He swore that he would work his hardest but..after his little run in with a certain Akuma, he came up with quick decision that he deserved a bit of a break, just an hour or two of undisturbed reading. No books that he had to read but something he wanted to read.

Considering he already had flipped through the pages of every book in his room, he went on his way to the library to see if anything interesting could catch his eye. Hopefully, he wouldn’t take too to pick something for his time for entertainment was a bit low this particular day. Upon entering the vast maze of literature and trekking through the rows of books for..not too long, he found something else much more interesting than any story. He grinned stupidly at the site of Kanda Yu looking through the pages of some book. His best guess that he was either secretly into novels with comedic themes or he was looking up soba recipes. Either way, Lavi would not be able to hold his curiosity and automatic wanting to bother Kanda. "Pssst, Yuuu ~" His voice was low, joking with the idea that one had to be quiet in a library.

Bothering Kanda without being killed was like a talent of sorts. Lavi was always curious to see how far he could go with the man.
