Sheesh, I haven't up dated in almost a month?!? Who missed me?
Cricket, cricket.
:)
The holidays were fun and I managed to avoid writing the month-by-month 2007 recap by reading enough of them to burn me out. If you want to know how my year went, have at the archives!
I will say that 2007 was a mixed bag for me. I turned 40 and jumped out of a plane, but my dog got sick and died. I hope 2008 is better.
There -- how was that for a recap?
The holidays were fine. We were scheduled to have Rick's brothers at our place for Christmas this year, but my new sister-in-law is horribly allergic to cats -- like, can't even be in the same house with them, apparently -- so rather than having her miss the family celebration, we imposed on one of the other brothers to host. This would be my least favorite of Rick's brothers, and his wife is also not one of my favorites, but I'm Adaptability Girl, so I was pleasant, made myself useful, brought food, helped clean up, and generally stayed above reproach. I also thanked them profusely for hosting and assured them that we'd host next year. Susan (my new SIL, who I like VERY much) will have to deal with the cats or not come, I suppose.
I loved all my Xmas gifts. I got mostly books (including the Colbert book and the Clapton autobiography), plus some other stuff. Lindsay got me an adorable rooster-themed tea set and Monica gave us a framed picture of Lola that she had taken. Tom & Susan shared some pics from their wedding (a fantastic one of Rick and I, and a wonderful shot of Rick's parents that he'd displayed on the well-wish table (Rick's parents are both dead)), and Bob gave us some pics as well. Bob got me for the exchange and gave me the biggest bath goodies set I've ever seen (body caviar, body tea, bath soak, cream soak, bubble bath, foot powder, body spray, ETC. -- I think it was a 50-pc. set!), the Clapton book (yes, I got two copies), and Barack Obama's book. I've read the Clapton and parts of the Colbert books -- I'll probably read the Obama book next.
I was off for the entire two weeks of vacation. I worked from home on our website on 1/2, and took sick leave for the following two days for my Lasik eye surgery.
The surgery went well and the results are fantastic! My surgery was performed at 3 p.m. on Thursday and we were out of there by about 4:30. My eyesight was noticeably improved, but pretty foggy directly after the surgery, but several hours of rest did the trick and I was perfectly fine to go out to dinner when I woke up. We spent the night in Fort Erie (Ontario), where the clinic is located, because I had a follow-up appointment the next morning and it was easier to stay in town rather cross back to the U.S., drive home, and reverse it all the next day. It's only about an hour away, but Peace Bridge traffic and rush hour made us decide to stay overnight. We even got to Fort Erie in enough time before my surgery to eat sushi! Do you KNOW how many sushi restaurants there are in my area? NONE. That's right, I have to drive at least 45 minutes to eat real sushi.
The surgery itself was...well, like getting a big cavity in your molar filled, only it's your EYES. It really wasn't horrible, but it wasn't very fun either. I don't like having my eyes touched, so having a speculum inserted in my EYES, and then being AWAKE while they first cut my eye, and then lifted the flap for laser shaping......BBBBRRRRRRUUUUUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!! I think the worst part was when my eyesight went dark. Even though they tell you when it's going to happen, and are very soothing, it's still fuh-REAKY. I was much less freaked out by jumping out of an AIRPLANE, fer Gawd's sake! Oh, and I had bruises on my EYEBALLS from the suction thingys that were ATTACHED to them. EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
But anyway, things are great and I love not having to wear glasses or contacts. Not getting to wear eye makeup for two weeks? Not so much. I'm not supposed to exercise for two weeks, but I think I'm going to start again after a week. Everything I've read elsewhere gives a one-week restriction for exercise, and as long as I wear a sweatband to keep sweat out of my eyes, I should be fine.
Which reminds me: I'm back on Phase 1 as of yesterday. It's the right time, and I'm not experiencing major cravings or anything. I've lost 1.5 pounds (all water weight, I'm sure). I'd like to lose 13 lbs. by 3/1. That's a little over 1.5 lbs. per week. I think that's reasonable.
