Went to see Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind, another mind-boggling creation from Kaufman. I really liked the visuals, but not Star's cost of 17 bucks for two souls.
I already knew the moral of the story, but it doesn't hurt to be reminded:
1. It is not a waste of time. In fact, if I'm wasting my time, then nothing could be better. I used to think that if an ending was bad, that the entire book/story/relationship would be tainted and ruined. But the ending doesn't do that. Those good parts and thoughts and moments are still there. You can still get 'something' out of it. (something as in je ne suis pas, not material).
2. You are the only people in the world. The only people that matter. And that is one of the most beautiful realizations.
3. Bad is good. Bad enhances good, so we don't become used to it, immune, and take things for granted. Bad sombers us. Bad is the passion in a romance. There is no bad in Mike and Taylor, and that is a fatal mistake.
4. Don't get angry. (If you do, blame the boy. It is ALWAYS there fault.) Move on. Keep the past. Keep the mistakes. Grow. Forgive. Accept.
5. Above all, fate exists. There are soulmates, maybe even several for one person, maybe even temporarily (physically-for more information read K.Vonnegut's Slaughter-House Five; it is happening, always will, always has, simultaneously). Sometimes we think that we can only truly love one soul in our lifetime, but I don't think that's true. (This is not an advocacy for polygamy. Loyalty and devotion are admirable and essential.) Have faith. Hold steady. Be strong. Love.
