but i need to record that i feel sad and panicked about nearing the end of Proust. 300 pages left of this volume, 500 pages of the last volume. and that’s all? that’s it? after so much, there is the end, perhaps 8 sessions more of reading. of course i will reread, contrary to an absurd declaration i made to someone when i first started the novel, that i’d never read it again. but this state of non-knowledge, of anticipation, will be gone. etc etc.
