I was going to make a joke about January in the gym always being chest day but, on third gym visit attempt, I did manage to get onto a bench.
Of course, the squat racks (and the deadlift spaces in front of them) were completely rammed.
The problem is caused by what is a good thing really.
I go to one of the gym chains whose thing is cheap and cheerful. It's got everything you need but no frills. It means it attracts people who are there to lift.
Problem, there are only two proper squat racks (plus two more racks you can squat in). The serious lifters (and let me assure you their technique is excellent and the weights they are lifting are ridiculous) have come to lift weights. And they do. Unfortunately, they come straight from work at the same time I do, and, understandably take quite some time lifting.
Wouldn't normally be a problem, they're friendly enough and you can work round them, but you've got the January freshers who are doing weird things in the squat racks so there isn't any excess space.
Cue disgruntled me.
I know the solution is just to wait them out, but argh!
