29 Days of Star Trek Meme - Day 19 - How did the Star Trek reboot affect you?
(I suspect this meme was written before the second film came out, but I am going to talk about both of them.)
Originally, I was okay with the idea. A little trepidatious (which is apparently a real word :) ), but generally okay. The thing that worried me was that it was going to be a reboot of TOS and that is probably my favourite and I was worried what they'd do with it.
So I watched the film, and I enjoyed it. Particularly George Kirk, Captain Robau and Chekov. I was a little ishy about it being set at the beginning of Kirk's career, because no-one is at their best at college/uni, and Kirk was a bit too much of a frat boy, and too much pop culture Kirk and not enough actual Kirk. (We will also skim over how, once again, losing a male parent is the path to nothing but being an aggressive wastrel. We shan't discuss why this pisses me off something rotten.)
Then the second one came out and it was not good. It might have been a good space action film, but it was not a good Star Trek film. It glossed over all the interesting moral bits of the story and focused on the explosions. I don't watch Star Trek films for the explosions.
So, yeah, I am significantly ish about it now.
