After carefully following the directions that Sera gave her, Lan PINpoints to 616 and finds herself just outside the doors of the Redfield apartments. Along with her usual long skirt, she's hiding her face behind a hooded hemp jacket. That's right, just another hippie with a heavy bookbag, move along, move along, no need to look too closely ( Read more... )

It takes some maneuvering for Sera to get around the boxes and to the door, but she manages to do so in a respectable amount of time, if not anything record breaking. Looking through the spy hole in the door, she has a hard time telling who exactly is out there. However, she can guess that by the build, it isn't Angel.
She opens the door several inches, and looks out cautiously.

"Hello...? Can I help you with something?"

She keeps her hood down and her voice soft. "It's Lan. I brought the books you asked for. May I come in? It's very open out here."

Sera's eyes widen when she recognizes the voice, and she quickly moves aside and opens the door wider to allow Lan in.

"Lan! Sorry, I didn't recognize you with the disguise. You're welcome in here."

She gestures to the couch and the coffee table, if Lan wishes to take a seat or set the books down.

Lan slips inside and waits for the door to shut before she wriggles out of the shirt. Eugh. Shirts! They catch on her feathers and itch horribly.

"Thank you." Leaving the bookbag on the table she goes to curl into a corner of the couch. "I wasn't sure how the locals would react to me, and even if it was good, there are so many people here."

((Sorry, have to go to sleep for now.))

"It's a big city." Sera agrees as she re latches the door. She picks her way over the kitchen, and looks over at Lan with a curious expression.

"What all did you manage to find? And do you want any tea or something to eat?"

"Some tea, please. Or any fruit if you have it. Thank you."

She starts to pulls things out of her bag - three books and two CDs. "I went through what I had on hand, and these seem like the best."

That's all the encouragement Sera needs to get some water on the boil, and raid Gale's tea supply again. She also opens the fridge to see if there's any type of fruit left, and once again the Embryon strategist comes through for her; there's a nice assortment of health foods on one shelf, and snuggled between vegetable bags is a box of strawberries.

"I'll see if I can get any of the others to help me with the books, and I think I have a way of playing those disks as well." She says as she brings the fruit over to the coffee table, and taking a seat on one of the boxes.

"Thank you. I brought one book explaining the background and the general practices of Hinduism, a copy of the Bhagavad Gita and another of hindu poetry. I know it's not much, but it's what I had on hand." Oooh, strawberries! That's exciting.

"For the CDs, you'll need a CD player or some computers can play them. One is a reading, in English, of the Bhagavad Gita and some poetry and the other is sacred music of the region."

"Music?" Sera holds up one of the CDs and looks at it thoughtfully; no prizes for guessing which one she'll be listening to first.

"This alone should give us some ideas about what the Karma Society was thinking when they made the Junkyard. And maybe..." Sera looked hopeful as she examined the books.
"Maybe it can give us some clues on what we need to do to fix the problems." The kettle started whistling, and Sera got up to retrieve it, some mugs, and two teabags.

"If you want, I have some secular music as well. I don't mind sharing. And, of course, answering questions if the books are too strange or obscure."

"What is the Junkyard?"

"The Junkyard is where Gale, Serph, and the rest of the Embryon came from. I also lived there for a while." Sera broke off to blow some of the steam off of her glass, and took a quick drink.

"The place was...Very different from here. It rained constantly, and most of the buildings were a lot like that." She points to an image on one of the book covers, showing a temple facade covered in carvings of gods and heroes.

"Where I'm from, the buildings look like that but without all the rain. If you ever get a chance, it's a little like Jaipur. Here." Lan flips to a page on Jainism and points out a temple.

"Do you like it here? The Nexus and all of it? I've found that it's both much safer and far more dangerous."

"Yes, I like this place and the Nexus. I've gotten to meet more people, and it looks like the same is happening to the rest of the Embryon." Sera looks at the image that Lan has pointed out, and nods.

"It's pretty. I wouldn't mind visiting your world sometime."

"Oh, my world...ah, it's complicated. It would be better if you found a Jaipur or an Udaipur, that's where this temple is, on another world. Maybe even this world would do. It looks close enough in timeline that something similar should be there."

'Complicated' made Sera raise her eye brows, and look carefully at Lan. All things considered, she really didn't know much about this woman, and vice versa.

"If it's okay with you, I wouldn't mind hearing more about your world sometime." Sera gathered up the CDs after she finished off her share of the tea and strawberries.
"Although right now I've got plenty to focus on. I'll do my best to contact you when I'm done with the audio. I'll probably have a lot of questions as well."

"No trouble, I'm easy to get ahold of." Lan finishes her tea, then nods and smiles. "So then, what's the easiest way to get back to the Nexus?"
