hello i know you've all been waiting for this (
2004,
2005,
2006,
2007,
2008,
2009) ... coachella 2010!
i got a half day at work which was really nice. monique was dropped off by karl and off we went to meet jeric and kelly at tren way. they came and jeric drove us all out to the desert. i got a room the second i found out the dates of the festival and it ended up being relatively cheap, like, model 6 prices for a pretty nice place. not like super duper but it totally did the job. we kinda lingered around with jack and cokes until the filter party once again! totally awesome but with just less alcohol selection. we met greg and kyrsten there who were totally jamming. i think we all owned the dance floor and devo was fucking djing which was pretty rad despite being a bit faded. we made it home sometime i think? i don't really remember, haha, here we go...
friday
- carl's jr lunch... i can't finish a meal anymore.
- line for the car to get in was a crab jam but we worked it roundabout style.
- line to get in was a breeze! wristbands for the whole weekend were RFID so badly though!
- pablo hassan was the first act i caught and it was like dubstep so that was cool
- dj lance rock was totally rad! serious yo gabba yo! all kinds of plush on stage
- sleigh bells was cool and i was surprised i knew a song from this mix i have
- yeasayer was totally awesome! i was dancing alone and totally grooving. this guy tried to pass me a joint and i was like 'nah thanks' and he gave me a dumb face!
- ra ra riot were cool. that one girl is cute.
- the specials were quite good and surprised me. i was jamming in the beer garden at the time.
- gil scot heron was a little too chill. his voice is so rad though!
- grizzly bear were good once again but how many times now!
- la roux was totally fun but i was like okee dokee... uh... still not totally sold
- LCD soundsystem sounded great and dude was having so much fun up there. 'all my friends' is an unstoppable song. where was michael any way? he got faced.
- danced with monique to benny benassi a bit
- then it was time to play some D&D... or watch fever ray at least. how hyper were they!!! serious costumes and suddenly the album made all kinds of sense to me. before i was like, what? and now i know what's going on. that girl is hyper
- and to close out the night jay-z was fucking on it! i haven't seen him since the hard knock life tour! so good! new york! man... so good that shit. i missed the jigga wha jigga who but i still got big pimpin'... word! such a good set and beyonce is all hot and stuff
- we got lucky with our parking so didn't have to wait toooooo much which isn't to say we didn't wait a long time to get out. it's cool.
saturday
- del taco breakfast!
- i think we short cutted the car line at a decent rate
- getting in was fast with them weekend wristbands!
- sam xl was first. i guess dubstep is a morning thing? good morning! he played a really cool florence and the machine dubstep version of dog days.
- peeked in to see john waters which was pretty funny but i kept moving only to find nothing
- went back to the sahara to chill with jason bentley but left to eat a bit. he played that new chemical brothers song while we were eating which was cool.
- camera obscura were totally cute and i somehow missed girls
- but beach house more than made up for all of that because they were fucking rad and i adored everything about it
- i think i saw some edward sharpe? but was like "whuh" so i wandered a bit
- caught the xx which was pretty cool but super chill and kinda sleepy. i guess the main stage caught on fire a bit so everyone was rubbernecking during one of their slow jamz. then the singer dude was like "the roof is on fire" which was kinda obvious funny
- hot chip were totally dancing fun which was super rad despite being totally solo. that's where i need to find a crazy troop of dancers but somehow a troop of strangers found me so whenever i turned around i saw a bunch of glow in the dark dancers including a cowboy a wizard and kinds of weird costumes. was rad.
- MGMT was a lot better than i thought they'd be. the new songs make a lot of sense live so i appreciated it for that. still i can't really listen to their new album but live i think they make sense
- MUSE melted your face
- die antwoord confirmed why you go to coachella. exclusive shit like this. premiers of awesomeness. so zef so fresh it hurts my brain to think about. bliss in 3 songs. man... so much going on and yolandi is so hot right now? i think. right? RIGHT.
- we were all like loopy after seeing die antwoord so we decided to find the magnuson camp and hang out. we told them about the awesomeness and had a beer. good shit.
- worked it on the way out once again
sunday
- carl's jr again but i just got chili fries this time. so fresh!
- paparazzi was first and he's a simple DJ but he plays some stuff everyone can dance to. he knows how to feel a crowd and he's done a couple clubs i've been at. good morning chill.
- rusko was my first bonafide dubstep essential act. soooo good! even david got into it. i was totally dubstepping! where your dubsteppers at? right here dude!!! i think it scared away all my other friends who decided to check it out on my suggestion. haha they got faced
- deerhunter were really cool. i was just sitting in the grass watching them. they played their hits! or something like that, i really like them guys
- i left there early to get a good spot for florence and the machine! soooo fucking good. i saw them last summer in london open for blur and was totally intrigued at the time. catching them semi close was really really good. i want to see them again
- yo la tengo were totally rad. autumn sweater and you're done! seriously. how good is that song? i can play it forever. let's do that then. i was in the beer garden at this time.
- caught spoon who are always good but never super spectacular but, no, srsly, good
- skipped phoenix... i know i know...
- but i got a great spot super close for pavement... seriously... i owe so much to that band. what were you listening to ten years ago? i was listening to pavement! like, a lot, and obsessing. but man... they played some jamz!!! serious awesometown. i can't wait to catch their shows in SF, NY and LV... you! right? but yeah they still have it. they're still great.
- somehow i found monique and camille so we thom yorke'd it together. airbag solo. everything in it's right place. that's all you needed to hear really.
- gorillaz were cool but kinda ended on a somber song and it confused everyone. i liked it though. i wish snoop was there!!! but yeah... that's when my weenie started to flap
- went to see if magnuson was around but no one was awake so we waited to party with david. it got kinda silly after that drinking warm guiness and messing with other campers. how hyper is the camping area!!! i want to camp now!!! it's rad dude. if i camp next year it's seriously over for everyone. i learned everyone about weenie flapping and azz everywhere. sooo rad! i don't even know what's going on with those songs.
next day we spent at the pool where we found some homeless brittish dudes. they got through the weekend with their "brittish wit and charm" and my pants flew off. we also met this random girl but i don't even know what was going on there. we ate at las casuelas which is sooo fucking fresh and kind of a tradition... can't wait for next year dude!!!
