Friday evenings didn't hold the same sort of promise on the island that they had back in the real world. Without any discernible work week, each day was interchangeable, mutable, but old habits are hard to break. Nicholas was freshly-showered after football, had a glass of iced juice clamped in one hand and a mind to head out to the Hub to while ( Read more... )

It was stupid, but he'd cut himself on patrol. Nothing bad, just a fall down a slope leaving a few scrapes. All he'd wanted was something antiseptic to wash them with, maybe a band-aid. What he got though, well, it wasn't what he'd expected. In all of his time as a detective, in all of his time at NCIS, he'd rarely seen things that gruesome. That it was here, he never expected it at all.

His hand strayed to his hip, for a gun that wasn't there. "Shit." The word escaped him, looking from the man to the body. The body. Not a person. He just hoped it wasn't his guy's work. That was something the island didn't need right now.

Bile had risen to Nicholas' throat unbidden, and he scrambled for a nearby rubbish bin, in which he promptly deposited most of his dinner. "Oh fuck," he whined, and found that he couldn't stop his hands from shaking, seized as he was by the sudden idea that somehow, someway, this meant Amin was on the island. That he was doomed to have his sins visited back upon him again and again.

The man's reaction did a lot toward making Tony think that he'd just walked in on this too. Whatever it was, and whoever had done this, it wasn't good. Hell, on a scale of one to bad, this was way beyond that little girl going missing.

It only took him a minute to find a sheet and cover the body. Tony knew better than to touch anything without gloves, but people didn't need to just see this if they walked in for aspirin. That taken care of, he crouched beside the guy, asking the stupidest of stupid questions, but knowing it was the only way to start. "You okay?"

"No," Nicholas answered, fingers still clamped over the rim of the bin as he stared into the middle distance. "I know her. Knew her. She shouldn't fucking be here. He's here. He's got to be here."

Fuck. It was one of those things. Tony wasn't sure if that made it better or worse. It meant no one on the island had been treated so gruesomely, but to have this sort of thing in your past. Damn, that had to be a whole ball of issues Tony didn't even want to contemplate.

"Alright. Alright," he said it more to order his thoughts than for any other reason. To get himself back into the headspace he'd thought he'd left behind in DC. "She wasn't here before this?" The questions started to come a bit more easily, "It's not going to be what you want to hear, but this really could be one of the things this place does to us. Bringing us things-" it was hard to refer to a person that way, "-from our past lives. To screw with us."

Tony didn't even get into who he might be. He hoped whoever the hell did this wasn't here.

What the man was saying made perfect sense, Nicholas knew that it made perfect sense. Still, it was a bit difficult to be reasonable when Kay's fucking mutilated body was laying under a sheet across the room. His eyes kept darting back to it.

"She wasn't here before, no," he finally answered, and lifted his gaze to the other man. "You need to make sure he isn't here. If he's here, we're all fucked."

"Who is 'he'?" Tony stood slowly, offering his hand to the other man. He couldn't look for someone if he didn't know who he was trying to find. Really, he didn't want to leave this guy here with the body, but Tony could understand the worry. If someone had done something like this, hell, if Kate had shown up like this... Tony swallowed hard, pushing that thought away. He didn't think he'd find anyone, but he'd look. "Can you give me a description? I'll go by the IPD office, grab a couple more people and we can look."

Nicholas laughed, the sound high-pitched and delirious. "He's Idi fucking Amin. He's- he's-" He motioned frantically with both hands. "He's a huge black man, and if he's here, he'll try to talk his way out of this, he'll make you believe he's innocent, ohhhh he will." He pointed at the other man, his hand unsteady. "Don't believe a word that comes out of his fucking mouth."

There were a few names it was hard to not recognize. That was one. "The dictator?" Tony winced at how disbelieving he sounded, thinking that he'd thought this guy looked familiar, and really, this was probably not the time to mention having seen him on a film. Possibly not ever.

Closing his face down he nodded, "Look, I know who that is. I'll go look, I'll get my partner, and I'll see if there's anyone in the IPD office to help. But you have to stay calm," Tony spoke slowly and seriously, noting the panic that seemed to be setting in on the other man. "I'm Tony, alright, I was a federal agent back home. I'm on the IPD here. Can you stay here? People might come in."

It wasn't the greatest thing to ask, and Tony wasn't even going to get into what Dr Brennan and some of the others would do to the body once notified. "If he is here we all have to be calm, right?"

"I'm fucking calm!" Nicholas blurted out, realizing even as he said it that he was anything but. "The bastard tortured me and tried to kill me, but oh, I'm calm, Tony."

He sighed heavily, then, a bit like he was exhaling some of his tenseness and irrationality. "I'm fine to stay," he added, and bit furtively against his bottom lip as he pushed weary hands through his damp hair.

"Look, if the bastard is here, we'll find him," It was easy to sound determined when you were. Anyone who could do this shit wasn't wanted on this island, that much Tony knew. Screw the blank slate, there were some things you just didn't forget.

"You want me to find someone to stay with you? A friend?" He offered it even though he didn't think he hide the time to spare. Tony didn't think that Amin was here, but if he was they needed to be looking for him now.
