Title: Trojan Horse
Pairing: Tezuka/Fuji
Rating: PG
For:
nana_chibi for being such a sweetheart.
The people that mistook Fuji's genial smile and easygoing personalty for nice weren't exactly wrong, but they certainly didn't know Fuji all that much. Tezuka knew that Fuji wasn't necessarily misleading people, and he did go out of his way for people he cared about, but generally, when Fuji was being nice, it meant he was up to something.
When Fuji showed up to practice with a small gift bag filled with his favourite balls, grip tape, and arm band, Tezuka was immediately suspicious.
"Thank you," he said, cautiously, wondering if he had forgotten some particularly significant date and Fuji was about to shoot that disappointed look that never failed to make him feel guilty in his direction
Fuji waved it off. "I got a gift certificate to a store. They don't carry my brand, but they carried yours. It'd be a shame to waste it."
That was a reasonable enough explanation, though Tezuka was surprised that Fuji didn't just use it on his brother. He stowed the gift in his bag, and got ready for morning practice.
The calm feeling he had only lasted until Fuji set down a beautifully made bento in front of him during lunch.
"Again, I thank you," Tezuka said, and resigned himself to a very hot and spicy meal. The suspiciousness of the early morning came back, however, when he realised how mild it was.
Fuji nodded to him graciously. "I made it for Yumiko, but she had a lunch date today. There was no sense in throwing it away when I knew you liked the same things."
It was another seemingly innocuous reason, but Tezuka didn't stop feeling wary. There were no coincidences where Fuji was concerned, ever.
Tezuka had just finished getting dressed for afternoon practice when Fuji showed up, almost late, with a cheerful smile.
"Tezuka," Fuji said as he set down his bag, "you wanted this book, right?"
Hesistantly, Tezuka took the proffered book from Fuji's hand and saw the new crime novel he'd been wanting. The library's copy had been on loan for weeks, and he was saving up for new sneakers, so he couldn't go out and buy it. "Thanks."
"It was nothing. I was helping my teacher with a few things, and he gave that to me as a thank you," Fuji explained with a smile.
"What do you want?" Tezuka blurted out before he could stop himself. At the look on Fuji's face, he wished he could take it back. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate the gifts, but Fuji being generous made him nervous.
Fuji frowned slightly. "I just wanted to do something nice for you."
That made him feel even worse. "I am sorry for being rude, Fuji. If there's anything I can do to make it up to you-" Tezuka tried to offer, but Fuji cut him off.
"Well, there is one little thing," Fuji said, grin right back in place. "I arranged for us to spend a weekend at a onsen, but it means missing practice. You won't mind, will you?"
Tezuka wanted to say no, but couldn't and nodded instead.
"Great!" Fuji exclaimed, clearly delighted with Tezuka's acquiescence.
"I was right, then," Tezuka said after a moment. "Those gifts were in aid of something."
Fuji cocked his head to the side. "No. I actually did just want to do something nice for you. Originally, I was planning on just asking you about the trip in the middle of a blow job, but your suspicious nature worked in my favour."
Blushing at the thought of Fuji's original plan, Tezuka ducked down and gave Fuji a kiss on his cheek, "Thank you for everything." And this time, he meant it.
Fuji grinned at him. "Since you're being so nice, I might just go through with my old plan. It'd be a shame to waste it."
Cheeks burning as he held the door open for Fuji, he couldn't help but agree.
