Well, i've been in the mountains for about two days and i'm already back in the rustic swing of things. Earlier today my dad and i tried to avenge a slain chicken. A black bear had attacked the chickens and scared my dog Max half to death. So my father attacked it with a shotgun, unloading five rounds. Unfortunately, he was too far for it to be effective and the animal ran away. We hunted it for a little ways, but gave up when we came to the thick underbrush.
I spent quite a bit of time working on the office room today. I fixed it up so you could walk in it and all that good stuff. Tomorrow i work on the living room and the guest room.
We (my dad and I) had an exercise in futility today. My sister made the mistake of handing over the pink slip of her old honda before getting all the money for it. The lady who bought it gave up a couple hundred and then disappeared off the face of the earth. We tried to get some information on her so we could re-possess the car ourselves to no avail. The police and DMV couldn't give out the info and we would have to drive to Sac in order to get her info. Even if we wanted to get the car back, we'd have to sign a bunch of paperwork and then do all the footwork ourselves. The police refuse to get involved, but encourage us to not let her get away with it. The DMV is the perfect bueracracy in the sense that they will not do anything and just refer us to their boss. So, is it worth it for us to try to get the rest of the money owed us? Probably not.
I finished the book on Diogenes of Sinope finally. It is a very good read, I learned a lot about the man and Classical Cynicism. Tomorrow i will start up another book, probably the book on Modern Satire.
I fiddled with some Dungeons and Dragons stuff. I made a pretty fun level 9 adventure that i plan on keeping handy for my other group. I still need to make an adventure for the saturday game, but i have time. I love the radical differences that each game presents me. The friday game is classical dungeons and dragons. I'm throwing them up against some kobolds and then following a plot that will change part of the world for the worse if it succeeds. The other game is loosely based on our own history and the people in that game are really interested in the plot and their characters. So in that game i get to throw in roleplay. In the friday game, the people tend to try to gloss over that and get to the combat. I just wish that Mike would try running a game one day, so he can see what it's like. But like many people that play D&D, he would rather not run since he wouldn't be able to play a character. There are few people willing to run d&d, and they tend to have to do it all the fucking time. Eh, i'm bitter about it. But making adventures is fun. The trick is to realize that every bad guy is meant to lose to the party and the fight that is tough may not always be the boss fight.
What annoys me about old slasher/horror movies is some of the victims. Jerks and popular people die, that is a given. I like that. But then they end up killing the freaks and nerds too. What the fuck?!?!?!?!. I'm watching Friday the 13th, Jason Takes Manhatten. The rocker chick is killed and i bet her nerdy friend will buy it soon. There's also the brother rule in effect. At least the bitchy drug-addled popular girl got her commupance.
