sfracerx , here are six random thoughts about me . . .
1. Yo - I was born and raised as an Italian in South Philly. People are amazed when they find out because I don't show any of the typical affectations people associate with that stereotype. I chose long ago not to pick them up, but I can turn the dialect on and off when I choose.
2. My mental abilities are almost evenly divided not only by analytical vs. creative, but also by visual vs. aural. When I take tests designed to measure these skills, I usually fall right on the midline. The interpretation is that I am either so focused that I am efficient and highly productive, or I am so scatterbrained that I can hardly function without chaos. The truth is both apply at different times, which makes for some very interesting dichotomies in my personality.
3. I am a chorus junkie. I've been singing for the past 25 years, and do quite well at it (just ask the "Summer Camp" gang). I've been a member of up to four choruses simultaneously, but in the last fifteen years, I've been sticking to the gay men's choruses. In my experience, I've shared the stage with several notables, including Marilyn Horne, Nell Carter, and Megan Mullaly. My next concerts are in May and June - if you're in SF and want more info, let me know.
4. I have an almost scary ability to remember numbers without even trying, particularly dates. I've shocked my fiends by throwing out some significant dates when they least expect it, and I've gotten bosses in trouble at company picnics by showing I know their spouses' and kids' birthdays and anniversaries better than they do. One date I'm particularly looking forward to is July 8, 2008 . . .
5. I am part of what I suspect is a small minority of gay people who do not think gay marriage should be legalized under the current system. In an over-simplified nutshell, I think the current laws and "model" for marriage are broken (consider the divorce rate), and they just don't suit a majority of the couples I know as they stand. I know the primary argument is that gay couples deserve the 1100+ benefits that come simply from the fact of being married. My response - make a credible movement to uncouple those benefits from marriage and see how fast gay couples get them. If you want to discuss further, I'm always open to the debate.
6. I do not have a driver's license. I've always lived in urban areas, and it just wasn't a priority. I got around it by being able to persuade or bribe friends to play chauffeur when I needed to get around. This even included transporting well-wrapped cargo to and from certain South of Market bars every now and again.
