Last night my husband and I went to a batman marathon and were seriously inundated with concussive explosions and big, bright on screen flashes. I left the new movie with an over-all positive perception (and proceeded to take the worst cab ride ever home) despite the fact that I find the second movie's plot over burdened and am always disturbed by the joker.
Yet, this morning I thought all I'd have is a "11 hr theater experience" hangover and find myself instead fielding calls, texts and messages concerned that we may have been in the theater where the shooting massacre occurred.
The violence of this event is devastating, and leaves a pathetically empty feeling where entertainment once was. For one of the most peaceful (homeland) and prosperous experiences in the world and recorded history, we still inflict suffering upon each other. Human weakness, brokenness and sickness stands out as something unavoidably part of our fragile existence. So, how do we respond??? If we held the trigger rigged to a blow a ferry, would we detonate to save ourselves? Can we be good men in a corrupt world?
How ought we to live
