HARIDWAR: Truck driver, sompal kumar, resident of Jabhreda village of Haridwar was killed by a leopard when he went to relieve himself early in the morning inside the thick forest near Nepali farm on Haridwar Rishikesh road on Friday. When he didn't return, his helper informed the truck owner who then traced the body with the help of forest range officer. His body was partially eaten by the leopard.

Director of Rajaji Tiger Reserve told TOI, "The driver went inside the forest during early morning hours. It is during early morning and late evening time, the wild animals make the maximum movement. So the driver was unfortunate in that respect."

He said, despite the fact that sign board had been put up outside the Nepali farm and T-junction warning people not to venture inside the forest and be cautious, people commit the fatal mistake knowingly of venturing close to or inside the forest and put their lives at risk.

He said that wild animal will attack any one if they intrude into their territory. And as it is common knowledge shared by wildlife scientists worldwide that anyone sitting or bending on ground or in a squat position is taken as prey by the wild animal who then attack it and also eat it up if it is starving. That is what happened in this case.
