So, for the Spring Quarter:
-I'm going to take the math placement test again to see if I can go into MATH 105 instead of 99. I'm in 98 now. The series goes: 98, 99, 105, 120. I need 105 and 120 as prereq's for WWU. I also need 120 as a prereq for Physics, which I need as a prereq for WWU. Same for another couple of classes, except with 105. The sooner I can finish those classes, the better.
Any math class = 5 credits
-I'm going to take CHEM 150. Brett teaches a class at 9.30 in the morning. I'll try to get a 7.30 class, an 8.30 class, and then at 9.30 Chemistry last. There will be labs, and I don't want to have to wait if the lab gets out early for another class. Waste of time. But we'll see.
CHEM 150 = 6 credits
-I need one more class. I talked to the student advisor today, and Introduction to Engineering is only offered in the fall. The rest of the prereq classes I need, I can't take because I don't have the prereq math/chemistry credits. The only thing I could take would be some kind of humanities/social science. I've had enough of taking these two-credit bullshit classes. I want to get going! AND - I refuse a language. That'd be way to much work with Chem and Math. So. I have 11 credits already. That leaves me with getting another 5 or 6 credit class, bringing me to 16/17 credits. I haven't decided what I'm going to take yet. At least I have a few days, the schedule of classes isn't even out.
Some of my options
ART 205 Survey of Non-Western Art • 5 CR
An overview of the visual art of Asia (including India, China, and Japan), the Native Americas, Oceania, and Africa. Examines the development of the visual arts of the non-western world within unique cultural traditions as well as within certain cross-cultural contexts. Slide lecture format. Two-off campus field trips required.
ART 150* Basic Photo I • 5 CR
Introduces basic camera handling, developing, printing, and composition with black-and-white film. Students should own a camera with manual exposure control and must supply their own film and photographic paper. Requires four hours lecture, two hours lab per week.
PHIL 145 History of Eastern Philosophy • 5 CR
Introduces the philosophical traditions of India, China, and Japan. Students explore concepts of value, self, reality, social/political philosophy, aesthetics, and religion in Hinduism, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, and other traditions.
I wanted to take PHIL 120 - Intro to Logic, but that's the only one I'm not allowed to take because my major isn't philsophy, bugger it!
MUSIC 116 History of Rock and Roll • 5 CR
Traces the development of rock and roll from its roots in jazz, rhythm and blues, hillbilly, and country idioms. Covers both instrumental and vocal styles from Elvis, the British invasion, heavy metal, Britney Spears, and other contemporary performers. Students learn to identify styles, musical characteristics, artists, and periods of music through listening, group discussion, and written texts.
It's Seattle, right? I guess they'd know their shit.
So, that's what I'm faced with. I pick between those four. I like the way all of those classes sound, and I like the fact that all of them are very different from the Math/Chem field. A bit of diversity would be nicely interesting. OF course, I have to consider what's going to look better on my application to WWU... The History of Rock and Roll... or a Philosophy class? I don't know where the Basic Photo would fit in there. But I think both History classes (the Phil and the art) would look better than the history of rock and roll. Eh, I dunno.
I'm amazed if you read all that gibberish.
Anyway, say Jason today at BCC. He said to call him when my classes got out, maybe he'd be taking a lunch break. I didn't get out of there 'till 2:00, what with my lab running late and an appt. with my student advisor. I called, but he didn't answer. Prolly working.
Tomorrow I test for the next two belts in Hapkido. Now that Mix has started doing more of the curriculum, I think I'll try to finish that and get my Hapkido black belt. But all the while, I'm still tapping my foot, waiting so I can go take Judo/Jiu-jitsu.
No school Monday, two midterms on Tuesday and one on Thursday. On Tuesday, I have piano and Chemistry. Ugh.
OH THAT REMINDS ME- GO IN TOMORROW TO THE CLASS D LAB TO GET MY STUDY SHEET BACK FROM HER! She forgot to hand them back today, and of course I forgot about it as well.
So back to what I was saying. For the piano midterm and final, there isn't going to be anything written. We have to pick pieces and play them. I found the transciption for Gary Jules' Mad World, and I'm going to play that... I should go practice. Don't know what I'll pick for the final. I was thinking along the lines of Alison Krauss/Nickel Creek.
The past two/three days have been unfrickinbelievably gorgeous. NOT ONE CLOUD IN SIGHT. Which is totally amazing, for Seattle. Beautiful.
