Since I totally forgot to post this last week-
I did end up going to that concert, even though I was feeling kind of anxious and antisocial.
...and then it ended up be right out of a freaking sitcom or something. I got mildly gothed up, put on one of my ancient tour shirts from the band, showed up during the opening band, and stood around awkwardly. And then I realized that despite what I imagined in my head, a large chunk of the crowd was my age, and it wasn't a crowd of 15 year olds. So I relaxed a bit. And then, a random dude tapped me on the shoulder and asked me if I'd been to tour my shirt was from, which of course I had.
Turned out he, and his friend, had also been at that same show in NYC 16 years ago, when we were all in high school. (WHEN DID I GET SO OLD) So me and these random dudes started reminiscing about how awesome the band was during that tour, and their subsequent tour, and basically all goth bands we've seen in NYC in the last 10 years, and all the music that has come out recently or will be coming out. So these dudes and I had a great, fun conversation, and they were totally not skeezy or hitting on me *at all*, and they totally didn't treat me like I didn't know about what I was talking about because I was a chick. And then when the show started one of them went off to the pit, but I sort of hung out with one of them for part of the show, which was cool because they tipped me off on which were new songs and we debated over what the encore would be.
The band was fab, thought (as I suspected they might) they played mostly new stuff that I didn't know. It was still stompy and dancy though, which was what I wanted.
After the show, I ran into one of the dudes again and we traded info because I lamented how I didn't really have friends to go to goth shows with, so we might go to some shows together. Yay!
THANK YOU BRET AND EVAN (?) FOR MAKING MY EVENING GREAT. THIS ALMOST MAKES ME WANT TO LEAVE MY HOUSE AGAIN.
