A Green Thumb
Finding a relationship can be a lot like watching the grass grow. You want to stare at the ground for hours and hours to catch the moment an opportunity for life sprouts up, but the more you look for any sort of change it seems like the harder it gets. You wait for some event, like rain to bring about change in terrain, getting a new promising job, and a more hospitable environment for the young seedling. Then you think your going to find some nice pleasant daisy and the next thing you know you’ve found an orchid growing in your front lawn among the million other blades of grass. Rather than questioning why there’s a delicate rare tropical flower on your suburban landscape, you get a flower pot to stick it in, put it on your patio and hope for a sudden spike in humidity. Such it is in the dating world, if your lucky. You think your going to find some just fairly pleasant person, not a big deal really, just someone with good taste in food and no outstanding idiosyncrasies, and you find someone really interesting that catches your eye; more even, than you’d like to admit.
Though usually, in relationships, especially in the beginning, there are many aspects we must focus time and attention into, like how much time we put into one single person. The flower pot represents the boundaries of the commitment of the relationship. At first the pot is very small to accompany the seedling relationship: a few dates, dinner and a movie sort of thing. after a while the pot gets bigger, you spend a weekend together, ...... after a few years the roots become dense ant thick, marriage, long term commitment, a thirty year mortgage. one must not let the roots become too dense for the pot or else the foundation of the relationship will be chocked due to too little support. the organic entity comes across things that threaten its heath. bugs in the garden, the depression of one partner weighs down on the relationship as the cold of winter slows the growth, but with the nurturing of the sun, the tender caring and concern of the other partner the frost melts to water, the insects bug off and the trust that is built from baron soil makes the potted wonder bloom.
the downside to growing a hot house flower in a porcelain confinement is it is not living on its own unrestrained terms. the orchid is not allowed to seed freely in its hot foggy terrain of rich tropic soil when its in a kitchen in northern California in October. Almost all relationships are taken on these terms, you know there’s a million other nice fish in the sea, sometimes you might even see another nice shiny one swim by in a Ferrari, but you neglect other opportunities because that Ferrari probably has confidence issues and no idea of your music taste. Some people in all their sprightly fashion are fed so intensely by the sun that they “go through boyfriends faster than lip gloss”, like airplane plants , sprouting out undefined intense relationships every few months like offshoots at any chance of rain.
In conclusion, the climate of life in both partners defines the growth and bloom of the relationship, and those that are found without anticipation are those who will bloom with the most color and vigor. Though rain may try to drown, take care off all aspects and the sun will rise in the east. Put into care what you wish to see grow, and you will be rewarded more than you first sought.
