TV!

Hi! I just got back from a night of drunken karaoke and so I feel like this is as good a time as any to talk about the television that I have spent my weekend so far catching up on. I'm not going to do homework tomorrow either because I am going to that inauguration concert thing. My excuse is that this weekend I am WITNESSING HISTORY and after ( Read more... )

I hope there's a fourth season of FNL. I am so not ready for that show to be over. Yeah, I loved everything about this season. This show always feels so honest - like everything they do is meant to serve the characters and story as best it can - which sounds logical, but is, unfortunately, not true of a lot of shows that will do things for shock value or because it's what the audience wants/doesn't want, whatever. FNL doesn't do that, which I really appreciate.

HAHAHAHA BSG does do that. But I am really hoping this season comes together. I haven't been reading interviews, but I sort of figured Kara wasn't the final cylon. I only started thinking she was during this episode when they found her body. Some people point out below that the Ellen thing could potentially be a misdirect, which I think is a really, really interesting idea.

Also we think Dee killled herself because she realized she was a Cylon. Remember how she picked up the jacks? Everyone else that was shown picking up/touching distinct objects had a flashback, and she killed herself after (a) looking at a pic of herself as a child and (b) looking at two vague picutre in a locket. I'd assumed they were Dee and Apollo, but we really don't know. Cylon memories kicking in? PERHAPS. I don't buy Ellen as the fifth Cylon. I don't buy Starbuck as the fifth Cylon. I could be convinced of false memories. I could be convinced that eeryone was a Cylon. I could be convinced that this was all a human/Cylon conspiracy.

Also: Starbuck built a pyre and burnt her own corpse. She is so, so much more badass than anyone ever - including Dean Winchester.

I agree! I think the whole thing with Ellen is a big misdirect. My theory is that Earth ITSELF is the last Cylon, and therefore everyone else, i.e. all the children of Earth, are Cylons, too. Dee killed herself because she wanted to find out if it was true. Hence, the oft-repeated phrase, "All of this has happened before. And all of it will happen again."

That would make more sense, actually, especially in light of the Kara stuff. That would be a really, really fascinating twist.

SPN was SO scary- I haven't been that freaked out watching something in a LONG time. I felt like I was watching the first two episodes all over again. I'll admit, I liked the tension them being human caused-- the uncertainty it made for in not knowing what they were, how they moved about the house. It was a nice reminder (to me anyhow), that sometimes the scariest thing in our own world doesn't HAVE to be supernatural-- that we're capable that depravity all on our own ( ... )

SPN was super creepy. And I do think it made sense narratively for the villains to be human because they were standing in for Dean this episode. (SPN is just not subtle). I just want SPN to provide me with my fix of supernatural creatures. I don't mind being reminded that we're capable of depravity on our own, but that's what Dexter is for. *g*

Dexter is excellent as far as the way it's put together - the acting, the writing, etc. It's just *so* well done. But it is also SO FUCKED UP. I found the second season really, really unsettling and not always in an enjoyable way. This one bothered me less for some reason.

True Blood isn't NOLA? Boo. I wonder where I got that impression. Though yeah, Louisiana and vampires is also a good combination. I have heard that the books are much better than the show, but I haven't read them.

SPN wasn't as creepy as the torchwood humans are evil episode.

BSG... I got off the phone with you the first time to turn and see the gun go off. hence the call back and "OMG!" response.

I don't even remember what TW episode you're talking about. :( I need to get my hands on the dvds and rewatch.

BSG had several OMG moments - and those are cool, but I just want the series to come together in a coherent way. THEY NEED TO GET ON THAT.

Ellen works for me as the last cylon mostly because I insisted to my roommates long ago that it was her and they didn't believe me and i was right. i like being right. But I don't know what that means for Kara ( ... )

I agree with your thoughts about Dee. Out of all of that, she's always had this almost naive hope and optimism. Seeing those jacks, a symbol of her own lost childhood innocence I think made her decide that she just didn't want to continue anymore. She had nothing left but despair.

The idea of everyone being a cylon would be difficult for them to pull together in the time they've got left - though as I said, I'm worried about them pulling it together anyway. If Ellen really is the last cylon, I think it works for the story overall, I just don't like what it does to Saul's story, but I'm willing to reserve judgment.

I'm reserving judgment on most of it at this point (though WHAT IS UP WITH KARA I WANT TO KNOW). I'm willing to go along for the ride, but I really want the to pull it off and I am nervous about it.
