Today I registered to vote, registered my car and got a VA driver's license. Because of the safety inspection and emissions inspection that I had to get done before I could even go to the DMV and the fact that my dad's name is also on the title and so he had to fax in a power of attorney form, this process took most of the day. Those of you who were around two-three years ago may remember how long it took me to get all of this stuff done in Louisiana. That's right. A YEAR. A year between the time I got my license and the time my car finally had LA plates, due to the title getting lost in the mail and no one being able to work a fax machine and just general incompetence on all sides.

My GOD, it's like living in a place with real infrastructure. I almost don't know what to do with myself. And I really don't trust it. It can't possibly be that easy. The biggest problem I have is that I don't have a way to attach a license plate to the front of my car right now.

I am kind of sad that my license no longer says Louisiana. I probably wouldn't have bothered to change it because I'm a student, except that I needed to register to vote because the absentee ballot application wants a residential address in Louisiana which I, uh, don't have by virtue of not living there anymore and the fact that my family never did. So I have sucked it up and officially admitted that I live in Virginia now. It was harder than you would have thought.
