(As a note, this is Andy, you know, your brother's Andy. I swiped the LJ a while ago when you were at our place and I totally just checked it for the first time. You are now "teh friended.")

So I have some plot complaints, but this is Chris Carter and I went in expecting to have plot complaints and, indeed, to fully disregard the plot if I deemed it necessary.

You kill me. Sums up what I resigned myself to about two-thirds of the way through.

While losing hope with the plot and some of the script (a few lines were a little cringeworthy), I remembered why I loved the characters, and I liked the shipper stuff. For some reason (all the unbridled sexual tension David Duchovny creates naturally, I guess), I couldn't help but think that Mulder and Special Agent Amanda Peet were going to spark at some point. Or that she'd at least try to spark something. Might have been interesting in terms of the M/S ship.

On the movie's effect on canon and characterization as a whole, well, my fears that the crusade was done for Mulder and Scully came to fruition. It's fine that they grew up, but it just didn't feel like something they'd have been finished with... ever. Seeing Mulder get obsessed again was nice, but Scully never seemed like the type to become hopeless. I guess we'll have to hope that darkness really does follow that ship. Though I suppose having the calender date for alien colonization in a few years can ensure darkness, and the hopelessness and giving up stemmed from that.

The Dubbya joke felt like what an amateur filmmaker trying to do a spoof would do. They made fun of the show's own music and broke the fourth wall, something The X-Files did, well, (almost) never. That was sometimes the best part of the show... it took itself so seriously, even in its comedy. A lot of the small humorous parts in this film were pretty much falling flat (general note: my favorite episodes are Bad Blood, Small Potatoes, and Postmodern Prometheus... I'm a comedy nerd, as I've told ya).

The main good thing the movie did was make me stay up late a few times this week to watch reruns in the dark on Sci-Fi.

Hi! Nice icon.

I was disappointed that the movie didn't have the epic feel that FTF had. I get that it had to stand on its own a bit more because it's been so long since the show went off the air, but I missed the aliens and the mytharc way more than I expected to - especially given how pissed off I was by the mytharc at the end.

I really don't like that they're done with the crusade; I liked Scully actually working as a doctor, that felt very IC and I can see them leaving the FBI - but leaving all that stuff behind after being so invested in it for so long doesn't sit well with me either.

But I did like th character and ship stuff and yeah, it reminded me why I used to be as crazy obsessed with that show as I was. There are things about it that I wish has been different and I'm fairly certain it's going to tank, which makes me sad, but if canon is going to be closed for good, there are worse ways they could have done it, and it's nice to have closure of some kind.
