It occured to me that one of the chief family values every instilled in me is that I should keep my fingernails clean and well trimmed.
Really.
My entire family is pretty well obsessed with this. We all carry fingernail trimmers either in our cars or on keychains and we all do it pretty much anywhere in the house in any situation (we make sure to clean up after ourselves, of course). None of us can stand to have long nails, because once they get long they get dirt trapped under them--which is awful.
So really I thank my family for teaching me many things, specifically to keep clean, short fingernails*.
*There are good reasons, many of which I discovered in high school, why a guy should keep his fingernails short.
