1 Wk To Relay Drive-By Post

Mar 23, 2014 15:22

Quick drive-by post while I take a few minutes to rest from running around doing House Stuff & Relay Stuff.

Things are going relatively well. We had a panic this past Mon though, Ah Le Gai, our deaf white cat, got out of the house somehow. We aren't 100% sure but suspect the back computer room window was to blame. We'd adjusted the bolts on them when the window sills were painted a couple weeks ago so we could get more airflow into the house. We forgot to re-adjust it & when I noticed it last weekend didn't think any of them could or would get out.

Ah Le Gai proved me wrong. :*( I noticed him when I was taking the garbage out Mon after work. Long story short, he took off & we couldn't find him. Being deaf we can't exactly call him so I walked the neighborhood trying to find him, took the next day off & we eventually got him Tues night at dinner time. It was nerve-wracking & really hard emotionally & we are so glad he's back.

Relay is almost here. We're at $5983.70NZ, with the Relay next weekend. It isn't quite our $7000 goal, but I've got a couple hundred that may still come through so we should break $6000 at least. We are well past the $4477 we raised last year & this year is the most we've ever raised as a team to my knowledge. I don't have the totals from 2006-2009, but don't know that we would have made much those years as it was just getting started.

I personally have hit $875.00NZ and am happy. It's my personal best & I'm glad to be able to make so much to support the Cancer Society.

I feel comfortable with wrapping the team up this year. I haven't had anyone offer to take on the captainship & I don't know if the team will continue at all. On one hand, that does make me sad since this will be the 8th year our team is at the North Shore Relay. On the other hand, it is ending on a strength & isn't ending because it has just quietly tapered off. There is always the chance someone will take it on & after our Relay I will email everyone with some options for them next year, including someone taking it over as a non-work team with people doing their own fundraising instead of own & team fundraising we've been doing. I am going to continue to do Relay, but not as a captain & hopefully will be changing over to a team closer to our house because it's getting to be a bit much for C to drive to the event over the Shore & pick me up with her back getting worse. I could drive myself, but since I do long hours & late night walking I'm shattered & not really fit to be driving after the event.

We shall see. Wish me luck & pray for good weather as the event out our way last weekend was cancelled due to an expected tropical storm (including high winds which are what really kill Relay).

Time to get moving again but wanted to let y'all know I am alive, even if I haven't been around lately.
