Dressing like It's the Early 1900'S

Quick post, been busy this weekend. Here's the 22 gauge Viking knit copper bracelet I took up to Craftworld today. I am still working on the contest piece but this was to replace another masculine bracelet I sold about a week ago.

I went to one of the 2nd-hand shops here in NZ. It's something kind of like Good Will in the US--they get clothes donations from individuals as well as companies with 'seconds' items, sell those (also some books and small items but clothes are the largest part of their stock) or donate to charities in other countries. I wanted a couple of work shirts, but more importantly, I wanted to find some pieces to wear to our work awards night on Thurs. The theme is "Great Gatsby". I've already got a bowtie and can wear a pair of work slacks, but my suit jacket is too small and being all wool would have been too hot. I ended up getting 3 nice shirts and a suit jacket for $78NZ. The jacket and one shirt had never been worn.

I suspect the jacket was a 2nd from one of the major clothes companies here (label was still on it). The buttons weren't attached well (almost falling off) & there are some small marks almost like inconsistencies in the material. I fixed the buttons on it, opened the boutonniere and pockets (who stitches pockets closed???) and fitted it with a boutonniere loop. The jacket is a little long in the arms but not too bad a fit.

I'm not putting this up at FB until after Thurs so I can keep my outfit a bit of a secret from my coworkers. I worked on the costume last night (repairing the buttons, made the loop, folded a pocket square into the 4-points version and ironed everything) so it's ready to go. This pict was taken before I did all that so I'll look a little different but basically like this.

I think Mother Nature enjoys laughing at me. My attempts at growing lettuce is hit and miss at best. When one of the few I've been able to grow last year went to bolt I cut the stalk, stuck it upside down in a paper bag and let it sit for about 6 months or so. About 2 weeks ago I shook as much seed into the bag as I could & then just set the old flowered/seeded top part onto an old potato bag of soil I hadn't been able to get any lettuce to sprout in.

Now I have hundreds (?) of little tiny sprouts! Yes, I can't grow them if I try but if I just toss the dried stalk into some soil to use as organic material they'll sprout!. I've sprinkled some slug bait over it today and have tried to transplant some but don't know if they are too young to survive. Even if they are I heard tonight that we may be due for hail tonight :( The original ones will be protected if we get it and I can transplant them if the ones tonight don't survive.

2 of our Big Rainbow toms are starting to sprout, the SubAlpine cherry tom has one sprouted with 2 leaves and the cat grass & Bellis flowers have also put a few sprouts out. Everything is getting a Spring Start :) These are all indoors so they should be fine tonight.

I've got an order for a couple angel sets from our neighbor's mom's elderly resident. I found out my neighbors will be moving in Dec to Australia--mixed news at best. Her yelling at the kids and husband can be a bit much some days, but they want to get renters in so that could go badly. She is nice & not always yelling at the kids. And of course the orders for the angel sets will stop. But oh well, all things change.

Well, off to work on the contest piece a bit, then the angels.
