I'm feeling a bit tired and emotional today, thinking about the trip home and how it's more along a "go see people before they die" trip, waking up this morning and immediately feeling stressed about work and where I'm at with my stuff (thank goodness I should be back to just doing my work tomorrow, not covering anyone else). I read something sad and thoughtful today and that's helped the emotions along.
On the positive side:
-I opened my birthday letter from
kriski and had a nice, touching letter and a neat place-setting with my name, a felt pumpkin and autumn leaves. It was very cool!
-We went for a short walk at
Waikumete today and while the graves deepend my thoughts of my trip home, it was also neat to see the different colours of freesias (?) and other spring flowers that are growing in the older section.
-I spent some time in the garden and got some sun. I planted the single squash that sprouted & replanted some watermelon & pumpkin.
So here are some links that I wanted to share.
Some tips and slow cooker troubleshooting, helpful for those of you who are either using a slow cooker or have thought about it but have questions.
Thanks to Cindy for this link,
Amazing Star Wars toy photography. These aren't just toys, they are objects telling a story.
This is the sweetest Youtube, about someone who goes to a rescue shelter to adopt a kitty. He got a one-eyed kitty. It's a neat vid, heartwarming.

Here's a neat Halloween craft, making a
Halloween Diorama Clock courtesy Drowning_Mermaid (who is rather crafty herself!).
This one rather pisses me off, It's
images of the Rena ship that is stuck on a reef in Tauranga, NZ. It's been leaking oil and has already severly impacted the birds and I'm sure the sea life. Some of the containers you see precariously perched may be the ones with hazardous chemicals, hopefully none of the most hazardous/flamable ones have fallen off yet. The shots are dramatic and well-done, given the subject.
And lastly, here's one that is interesting,
scientists have cracked the DNA code of Black Death. And the surprise? Yersinia Pestis hasn't changed much since it decimated Europe, but we have.
(ETA: While I was typing this entry, the phone rang & it was my Step Mom. Given it was about 10:30pm her time when she called my heart dropped. She called partly because she misses me (we haven't talked in awhile) but also because she wanted me to know my Step Brother has lost his vision completely. He's on dialysis for his kidneys, has been for about 15 years. He lost his vision in one eye due to a clot a few weeks ago or so and has now lost his vision in his second eye. I'm gutted.)
Also, the Occupy movement has reached NZ (I was wondering how long it would take). I support what they are saying, but work in a Large Bank, in a large, branded (ie--has our name on it) building so am nervous about being locked in/having to go through BCP (Business Continuity Plans) and move my work to our alternative site if we get targetted. I'm not saying people shouldn't protest, just I'm apprehensive about being at work for the next few weeks.
Oh well, I'm going to go do dishes.
