The Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes was a success! Again, it's not a literal go from flour-water-yeast-salt to fresh loaf in 5 minutes flat kind of thing, but it's along the lines of the
bitesizedcleaningcomm. If you've never made bread but have been interested, this would work for you. If you're often low on spoons but really love fresh bread, this would work for you.
The main site is here:
. They've got 2 books out and one is for healthy breads. It's kind of hard to find the master recipe on their site. Fair enough, they want you to buy their book. But you can find it here. They have several recipes and this is just one so I've got the Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes book on my wishlist. You can half the recipe if you need to.
Now, the thing that makes this ideal for unexperienced bread makers and people who run low on spoons: No Kneading.
Yep. None. You put warm water in a large container, you dump yeast and salt in and stir it a bit. You dump flour in. You stir it a bit. You let it sit for a couple hours. You put it in the fridge. You can pull some about a pound of dough out between those 2 stages, but it handles better after being refrigerated. You can keep the dough for up to 2 weeks in the fridge. When you're ready you sprinkle some flour on your hands, some on top of the dough and pull some out, cut it with kitchen scissors, do a quick shape and let it sit for a bit, then bake it.
That and the fact that if you don't each much bread or want to be prepared for lower spoon days, you can separate the dough into your 1 pound lots and shape them, then freeze them. Thaw the night before & bake and you've got bread.
It took me roughly between 5 and 10 minutes to assemble the ingredients & make the dough yesterday. It's taken me maybe 5 minutes or slightly more to get out the dough, baking paper, flour and cornmeal, shape the loaf and pre heat the oven & chuck it in.
I don't have a baking stone they call for. Or a pizza peel. Yesterday I used a cast iron fry pan to bake the first loaf, used a sturdy metal bread dish to put the water in to create steam. Today I'm trying it completely different, I'm making a more traditional loaf shape so I'm not using the steam nor the cast iron. I've found using the baking paper with some cornmeal (or if you live in other countries, look for polenta) sprinkled on the bottom cuts down clean up and makes it easy to move the bread into the oven & out of the pan.
It's a kind of sour dough, a slight sour taste yesterday and the flavour is supposed to improve as it's refrigerated. The texture and taste are excellent! It has a better texture and is less crumbly than what I make in the breadmaker so will be better for my sandwhiches. They also have several other recipes, including a sandwhich bread. Definitely putting the book on a wishlist. I've been trying to cut back on my cookbooks but think this is worth it.
Non-bread stuff:
3 day weekend! The weather isn't great but it's nice to have a long weekend. I need to get up in a second and get my cleaning done. While the extra pay would have been nice to work today, I am quite happy with a day off.
I listed some of my gender inclusive jewlery at
C's Artfire shop last night. Here are a few links. If you are able to spread the word & link to them, I'd appreciate it!
Here's the Copper & Wood braceletThe Nautical and Nuts necklaceThe Agate Tube (which I don't think I put a pict of up yet so might do at the bottom)And the Glass Cats, Lava and Fire Opal Crystals (again, don't think I put this one up so will do below) I haven't gotten the Scorpion or Sun necklaces or the Shooting Star bracelet up yet.
I've been wanting to list my cleaning task lists, I'll do that in a separate post. It's almost 10:30am and while I've got a batch of bread started, haven't done much else yet today so need to get onto my daily list and finish my weekly tasks (just vacuuming and part of a big job). The side of the couch that Morgan & I don't sit on is being taken over by bead stuff and I need to start making my angels for Relay for Life.
Now, pictures of jewelry. Thank you for your compliments on my last post! I do appreciate feedback and comments. :)
The Agate Tube necklace. There's a tiny flaw on the stone so the shop site has a close up of the flaw. I like these tubes but they're really pricey, $10NZ for one (although they are about 40mm long) so I haven't gotten any more yet.
And the Black Cats, Lava and Fire Opal Crystals necklace:
Thanks for looking!
